The month of March is Social Work Month! Since its inception, the social work profession has worked to improve life for millions every day. Social workers operate from values that recognize each person as relevant to society and believe that, when needed, society should help each person achieve his or her fullest potential.

People choose careers in the social work profession because they believe they can make a significant impact in the lives of others through individual and group assistance. But they also recognize that effective social work practice with individuals, families and communities is affected by institutions, customs and laws that may limit the success of many.

Jackie McEldowney, Licensed Social Worker at Versailles Health Care Center, became a social worker because she had such a desire to help people. McEldowney has been a member of VHCC’s team since 1993. She takes care of resident’s psychosocial needs during their stay. She is also responsible for the discharge planning process with residents. McEldowney is the social worker for all residents in the SCU, Ferree Brooke, and South Wings at VHCC.

Chris Huber is the nurse manager for VHCC’s Transitional Care Unit, which is the facility’s short term rehab unit. Huber also functions as the Social Service Designee for the residents in the TCU and plans resident discharges to home. Huber has been a member of the VHCC family since1985. She is involved in all aspects of nursing care and services provided to these residents. She does the required assessments and care plans for these residents as well.
