State Representative Richard Adams (R-Troy) has announced that the State Controlling Board approved the release of funding to Edison Community College for the Choose Ohio First Co-op and Internship Program.
Edison Community College, in partnership with Upper Valley Career Center has been awarded a total of $269,665 to promote and encourage cooperative education and internship programs, according to documents from the Office of Budget and Management. These programs are for the purpose of attracting and retaining talent and businesses in Ohio, with a focus on key industries and occupations.
“This Choose Ohio First Co-op and Internship Program award represents a continuation of the partnership between state and local government, resulting in the programs needed for providing skilled, knowledgeable workers. As a result, economic development and additional jobs are provided,” Adams said.
The appropriation provides funding to engage more students, businesses, and faculty in co-op and internship programs that are relevant to Ohio’s workforce needs by helping to close skill gaps where they exist.
The Ohio Board of Regents, the Governor’s Office of Workforce Transformation, JobsOhio, and national experts recommended that a total of $10.8 million be awarded to 25 applicants during Fiscal Years 2014 and 2015.
