WHIO: Driver Sentenced for Hitting a Student on the Way to School

Billie Skeens, a 25 year old Shelby County resident, was sentence in Darke County court this week for charges stemming from an incident where she struck a 13 year old Arcanum student who was walking to school.

According to WHIO, Skeens "received an amended 120-day jail sentence: As long as she pays $1,002 in fines and court costs, Skeens will only have to serve 10 days in jail and 30 days on electronic-monitored house arrest, according to the Darke County Clerk of Courts Office."

The student was critically injured and still has not returned to school after the December accident.

Skeens has a history of traffic violations and her license was suspended at the time of the incident.
