MVCTC Students Compete at HOSA State Competition

State Competition
Columbus, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) students in the Health Occupations Students of America (HOSA) Chapter competed in the State HOSA Leadership Conference in March.

MVCTC students’ results from the HOSA State Leadership Conference include:
  • Chelsie Barker, Biotechnology student from Brookville, won a Gold Medal for her work on the HOSA Happenings Multimedia Chapter Communication Event
  • Cassidy Branch, Allied Health student from West Carrollton, placed 1st in the Human Growth and Development HOSA State Competition
  • Amber Browning, Health Careers Academy student from West Carrollton, placed in the top 5 in the Medical Assisting HOSA State Competition
  • Nicole Casner, Allied Health student from Bethel, placed 1st in the Epidemiology HOSA State Competition
  • Victoria Coleman, Allied Health student from Huber Heights, placed 2nd in the Clinical Nursing HOSA State Competition
  • Dyreda Helton, Allied Health student from Northridge, won a Gold Medal for her work on the HOSA Happenings Multimedia Chapter Communication Event
  • MVCTC senior, Lucas Chrisman (Franklin Monroe),
    earned the HOSA Barbara James Service Award.
  • Brooklyn Murphy, Medical Careers student from Valley View, earned a Gold Medal for her work on the Outstanding HOSA Chapter Event
  • Margaret Myers, Biotechnology student from Tri-County North, placed 1st in the Biotechnology HOSA State Competition
  • Dominique Randle, Allied Health student from West Carrollton, placed 2nd in the Medical Spelling HOSA State Competition
  • Kayleigh Reynolds, Allied Health student from Northmont, placed in the top 5 in the Epidemiology HOSA State Competition
  • Dwight Richardson, Medical Careers student from Trotwood, placed 1st in the Life Support Skills HOSA State Competition
  • Emma Rife, Health Careers Academy student from Miami East, earned a Gold Medal for her work on the Outstanding HOSA Chapter Event
  • Kaitlynd Zamosky, Allied Health student from Northmont, placed 3rd in the Medical Spelling HOSA State Competition
  • The CPR/First Aid Team of Nicole Leyes (Biotechnology student from Milton Union) and Kayla Rader (Biotechnology student from Ansonia) placed 3rd in the CPR/First Aid Team HOSA State Competition
  • The CPR/First Aid Team of Kyle Davis (Allied Health student from Preble Shawnee) and Garrett Proctor (Allied Health student from National Trail) placed in the top 5 in the CPR/First Aid Team HOSA State Competition
  • The Forensic Medicine Team of Kaylee Bledsoe (Health Careers Academy student from Valley View) and Abigail Williams (Biotechnology student from Valley View) placed 1st in the Forensic Medicine HOSA State Competition
  • The Health Education Team of Samantha Hatfield (Health Careers Academy student from Carlisle); Courntey Richards (Health Careers Academy student from Vandalia Butler); Bethany Richardson (Health Careers Academy student from Vandalia Butler); and Ashley Still (Health Careers Academy student from Milton Union) placed 2nd in the Health Education Team HOSA State Competition
  • The Parliamentary Procedure Team of Hailie Carone (Health Careers Academy student from Brookville); Brittany Holbert (Health Careers Academy student from Brookville); Caleb Hopkins (Health Careers Academy student from Miamisburg); Montana Jack (Health Careers Academy student from Miamisburg); Kathryn Peterman (Health Careers Academy student from Northmont); and Tiffany Doyle (Health Careers Academy student from Bethel) placed 1st in the Parliamentary Procedure Team HOSA State Competition
  • The Public Health Team of Kourtney Cherry (Biotechnology student from Northmont); Brittany Craig (Biotechnology student from Eaton); Tiffany Flory (Biotechnology student from National Trail); and Megan Meyer (Biotechnology student from Northmont) placed 2nd in the Public Health Team HOSA State Competition
  • McKenze Moss (Biotechnology student from Trotwood) was elected as an Ohio HOSA State Officer for the 2014-2015 school year. McKenze will be serving in the position of HOSA State Secretary.

Both the MVCTC HOSA Junior and Senior Chapters earned Gold Medals for their work on the National HOSA Service Project. The HOSA National Service Project involves the sponsorship of a national healthcare organization by local HOSA chapters. Local chapters plan service projects to support the selected organization. Chapters document their involvement and submit documentation to their state advisor by the state deadline to be eligible for national recognition. The current organization adopted by HOSA is the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

The MVCTC HOSA Chapter also had 16 members earn the HOSA Barbara James Service Award. The Barbara James Service Award is in memory of Barbara James, 1982-83 HOSA Inc. Board Chairman. Her leadership skills and contributions to HOSA exemplify the caring and compassion of HOSA members. This award seeks to recognize individual HOSA members whose commitment to community service is worthy of recognition. The following MVCTC students were recognized with the Barbara James Service Award for putting in over 50-hours of community service:
