Edison is pleased to announce that United States Senator Sherrod Brown will serve as the ceremony’s keynote speaker. Brown was first elected to the U.S. Senate in 2006, having previously served as a United States Representative for the 13th District, Ohio’s Secretary of State, a member of the Ohio General Assembly.Included in Brown’s legislative priorities is his bipartisan Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act (RAMI), legislation that brings togetherlocal industries with Ohio universities and community colleges, federal agencies, and all levels of government to help create new jobs in high-growth industries.
“Few commencements are as special as those at community colleges, which celebrate hard work, family, and overcoming obstacles. Edison Community College is no exception,” said Senator Brown. “By offering industry-designed programs focused on training students for cutting-edge jobs, Edison prepares its graduates well for today’s economy. I’m honored to join the more than 250 graduates at this year’s commencement at Edison Community College.”
Commencement will also include a welcome and introduction from Mr. James Thompson, Edison Board of Trustees chairman; a student address by Ms. Kimberly Rhoades, 2014 Edison graduate; an introduction of the keynote speaker by Mr. Darryl Mehaffie, Edison Board of Trustees vice chairman; presentation of candidates for degree by Dr. Patricia Ross, senior vice president for academic affairs; and special acknowledgements from Edison’s president, Dr. Cristobal Valdez.
“Spring commencement is a wonderful celebration of the success of our students,” said Pamela Gibellino, Director of Student Success at Edison. “Our diverse population will move forward in many different ways. Some will begin their career in a technical field, some will transfer to a four-year school, and some will continue their education on our campus by seeking another goal or working with our four-year university partners. We are very proud of our graduates and grateful to family, friends, faculty, and staff for the support they have provided to our graduates!”
A reception for the graduates and those attending to celebrate this milestone with them will be held immediately following the ceremony.
