Several posts appeared here over the last few weeks announcing the impending opening of a new restaurant in downtown Arcanum called "The Old Arcana." My wife and I happen to know the owners and have been excited for their entry into the restaurant business for quite some time, so seeing them realize their dreams and see so many plans come to fruition is very exciting and inspiring.
The new restaurant, owned by Jeff Besecker, Shannon Perry Clark, and Leslie Handshoe-Suter, is on West George Street in its namesake village of Arcanum. We stopped in for breakfast on Saturday, just their third day of business, with open expectations knowing that the group is still in its infancy and many folks on the staff were handling new duties for the first time. Understanding that the place is a mom and pop shop without the benefit of an established chain to lean on for training and setting up processes allowed us to be patient and enjoy the experience..png)
Honestly, we were extremely impressed. The wait staff was attentive and eager to please, but (maybe more importantly to me) the food was fantastic. I had the Bourbon Praline French Toast (pictured on top) while my wife called the Arcana Sausage Gravy & Biscuits "the best biscuits and gravy (she's) ever had" (pictured on bottom). My 3 year old daughter also enjoyed her pancakes and scrambled eggs, and when she eats well, she tends to be an extra degree of happy until the next meal. Needless to say, she was a very happy gal Saturday morning.I'm far from a foodie and my palate is laughably simplistic, but we each loved what we had Saturday morning and now know that we have a special treat waiting for us to visit in Arcanum. I cannot wait to see how the restaurant evolves and to go back to try more of their offerings.
