BRETHREN RETIREMENT COMMUNITY PLANS COMMUNITY ALZHEIMERS EVENT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH ALZHEIMER’S ASSOCIATION FOR JUNE 18

The Alzheimer’s Association has a signature event, “The Longest Day” that will be happing around the world to honor those facing Alzheimer’s Disease and remember loved ones who were afflicted with this tragic disease. This event is designed to pull communities together to honor the strength, passion and endurance of those facing Alzheimer’s and to raise awareness of the disease and the urgent need to find a cure and cause.

Most of the world will host events on the summer solstice, June 21, however, to increase participation, Brethren Retirement Association is hosting the Darke County event on Wednesday, June 18, 2014

This event begins at sunrise, 6:08 am, with walkers taking shifts and continuously walking around our large pond until sunset, approximately 9 pm. At 9 pm, Eric VanVlymen from Alzheimer's Association will be here to speak at the 9pm lighting of the luminaries ceremony. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Luminaries with the name of your loved one(s) can be purchased for a donation that will benefit the Alzheimer’s Association. Forms for luminaries can be picked up and returned to our switchboard, just inside our main entrance. We will place them around the pond for the lighting ceremony and read the names those who have luminaries in their honor or memory.
