Reid Café at Twelve Hundred launches revamped pizza

Reid’s Café at Twelve Hundred (at Reid Hospital in Richmond) has launched major improvements to its pizzas starting Tuesday, July 15.

“We are going to start offering a totally revamped pizza product,” said Kris Ankeny, Director of Food and Nutrition Services. She said pizza crust will now be made from scratch each day and new equipment will allow pressing the crust “to the perfect thickness.”

“This new product will allow us to crank up the heat in our pizza oven to 600 degrees,” Ankeny said, “which results in a superbly finished product that will only take five to six minutes to bake.”

Chef Dugan Wetzel has also developed a new “smoother, less chunky” sauce. “It is getting rave reviews from those who have sampled it.”

Ankeny also noted that the café offers whole pizzas either hot to go or cold to bake. For pricing and to make a take-out order, call (765) 983-3000 and choose extension 2903. Allow at least 30 minutes for hot pizzas to go, she said.
