2 Children Injured on Tandem Bike After Being Struck by Pickup Truck

On Sunday, August 10 2014 at 6:10pm., Darke County Sheriff's Deputies along with Bradford Fire & Rescue, Gettysburg Rescue and Care-flight were all dispatched to 9600 block of Grise Rd. on a report of a bicycle struck by a pickup truck.

Preliminary investigation revealed the 2000 Chevy 1500 pickup truck was driven by a 17 Year old male. The tandem bicycle was occupied by a 13 year old female and a 5 year old female. Both were traveling eastbound on Grise Road when the accident occurred. Investigation shows the Chevy 1500 pickup truck attempted to pass the slow moving bicycle resulting in a collision.

The 5 year old female was transported by Care Flight to Dayton Children's Hospital. The 13 Year old female was transported by Bradford Rescue to Upper Valley Medical Center and later transferred to Dayton Children's Hospital. Both are listed in Fair condition. The driver of the truck was uninjured.

At this time the accident is still under investigation.
