Constitution Week September 17 through 23 Proclaimed by Darke County Commissioners

On Sept. 10th Darke County Commissioners signed a proclamation declaring Sept. 17 through 23 to be “Constitutional Week” for all Darke County citizens at the behest of the Fort GreeneVille Chapter of the DAR which started the tradition of celebrating the Constitution and then petitioned Congress to set aside Sept. 17-23 annually to be dedicated for the Observance of Constitution Week. President Dwight Eisenhower signed it into public law on August 2, 1956.

The United States Constitution stands as a testament to the tenacity of Americans throughout history to maintain their liberties and to ensure those unalienable rights to every American.

The proclamation reads as follows:

Whereas, September 17, 2014 marks the two hundred and twenty-seventh anniversary of the drafting of the Constitution of the United States of America by the Constitutional Convention; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper to officially recognize this magnificent document and the anniversary of its creation; and
Whereas, it is fitting and proper to officially recognize the patriotic celebrations which will commemorate the occasion; and
Whereas, public law 915 guarantees the issuing of a proclamation each year by the President of the United States of America designating Sept. 17 -23 as Constitution Week.
Now, therefore, We- -The Commissioners of Darke County, Ohio –do hereby proclaim September 17 through 23, 2014 to be: Constitution Week in Darke County and ask our citizens to reaffirm the ideals the Framers of the Constitution had in 1787.
