Pitsburg - Darke County Deputies, along with Arcanum Rescue and Pitsburg Fire, were dispatched to Pitsburg Laura Rd just east of Gettysburg Pitsburg Rd reference to a minor injury accident. Initial investigation revealed that a 2004 Jeep, driven by Patricia Nichols (51) of Arcanum, was eastbound on Pitsburg Laura Rd. when a 2003 Pontiac, driven by a male subject, pulled out of a driveway striking Nichols' vehicle. The male subject driving the 2003 Pontiac then fled the scene on foot, westbound on Pitsburg Laura Rd. Nichols was treated by Arcanum Rescue and was transported to Wayne Hospital with minor injuries.
During the investigation deputies learned that the 2003 Pontiac was reported stolen out of Dayton. Darke County Deputies immediately set up a perimeter to try and locate the male subject that was driving the stolen vehicle. For precautionary measures Franklin Monroe School was put on a lockdown, while the subject was still at large. The Darke County K-9 unit was called to the scene to track the male subject. A male subject matching the description was spotted by a Darke County detective walking along the edge of a woods west of the Village of Pitsburg. When the male subject was approached by Darke County Deputies the male subject then took off on foot and Darke County Deputies started a foot chase after the male subject. The male subject was apprehended without incident and identified as Mychal Bergman (18). Bergman lives at large at this time.
During the investigation it was revealed that the residence the vehicle was stolen from had actually been broken into and items were taken from the residence. During an interview with Bergman he admitted to entering the occupied structure in Dayton and stealing items from inside the residence, then taking the homeowners 2003 Pontiac. Bergman was also in possession of other stolen property from another location in Dayton.
Bergman is being charged with Possession of Stolen Property in Darke County and other charges will be pending from this investigation. Darke County Deputies are working in conjunction with Dayton PD in reference to other charges for the Burglary and Theft, which occurred in Dayton.
