Grief Support on Pet Loss First Meeting is October 20

The County Animal Clinic in Coldwater will hold its first pet loss support group meeting Monday, October 20 at the clinic’s office, 800 N. Seventh St. in Coldwater. This meeting will be followed by one on Monday, October 27.

Assisting the animal clinic in the grief support sessions is State of the Heart Hospice whose bereavement specialists are offering guidance and advice to the clinic staff. State of the Heart provides care to patients and families in eastern Indiana and western Ohio who are confronting a life limiting illness. An important part of the services offered is bereavement support. State of the Heart has become the area’s expert agency when grief support is needed.

Following the two October meetings, the animal clinic will hold a grief support meeting the first Monday of each month from November through and including March. The meetings begin at 7 p.m. The support meetings are for anyone who has lost a pet: a dog, a cat, a horse, pet goat or other animal. It is not necessary to have any association with hospice or the animal clinic. The sessions are free and open to anyone in the community who would like to attend.

The staff at the County Animal Clinic reached out to State of the Heart Hospice to help implement this “pilot” program. A hospice staff member will be in attendance at the sessions. For more information about the support groups call the animal clinic at 419-678-3610. State of the Heart has offices in Coldwater, Greenville and Portland.
