POETRY ALIVE! WILL PERFORM AT LOCAL HIGH SCHOOLS

Darke County Center for the Arts will present Poetry Alive! at local high schools October 13 through October 16. The second of DCCA's Arts In Education Series that presents high quality performances to students in all grade levels in each Darke County Public School, the show utilizes a team of skilled actors to create little plays out of the poems they perform. “Poetry Alive! entertains as they educate, pleasing educators as they engage students with a broad range of poetic forms,” said DCCA Artistic Director Keith Rawlins.

Poetry Alive! has performed to an audience of over 10 million people of all ages throughout the world. Their performance for ninth-through-twelfth-graders will include classic poetry from Walt Whitman, William Shakespeare, and Alfred Lord Tennyson as well as work from contemporary poets. According to Mr. Rawlins, the diverse subject matter ranges from love to war and beyond, and will move audiences to laughter as well as to tears of empathy.

DCCA's Arts In Education presentations are sponsored by Target, DP&L Company Foundation, Vectren Foundation, Greenville Federal, Maid Rite Sandwich Shoppe, The Andersons, Edison Community College, Richard and Shirley Baker, The Oliver Family Fund of the Darke County Foundation, BASF, Family Health, Littman-Thomas Agency, and Mercer Savings Bank, and the Mandy Green Fund of the Darke County Foundation. Additional funding is provided from DCCA memberships and the schools. The Ohio Arts Council helped fund this program with state tax dollars to encourage economic growth, educational excellence and cultural enrichment for all Ohioans. DCCA also receives operating support from the Harry D. and Esther Stephens Memorial as well as funding from the Ketrow Foundation and Lydia E. Schaurer Memorial Trust Fund.

DCCA's Arts In Education programs are free and open to the public; performance times are coordinated with the schools' schedules. For more information about specific times, contact DCCA at 937-547-0908 or at dcca@centerforarts.net.
