Timber Rattlesnakes Come to Shawnee Prairie!

The Timber Rattlesnake is Ohio’s largest venomous snake. Timbers were historically found across much of Ohio, but viable populations have now been reduced to three general areas. Join the Darke County Parks as we welcome Doug Wynn and learn (and see UP CLOSE) these amazing rattlesnakes. This program will occur at the Nature Center at Shawnee Prairie on Saturday, January 17th at 10:00am. Doug Wynn is a retired high school ecology teacher, and has had a special interest in snakes and studying them since his undergraduate years. Doug is now presently coauthoring and editing a book on the turtles, lizards, and snakes of Ohio which is being funded by the Ohio Division of Wildlife and will be published by the Ohio Biological Survey, Inc. There is a $2 fee for the program. Pre-registration is required by calling the Nature Center at 937.548.0165.

Visit our website at www.darkecountyparks.org for more information about all of our upcoming programs. Did we mention you will have the chance to TOUCH a rattlesnake?
