Cargill has recently made a generous monetary donation to Big Brothers Bigs Sisters of Shelby and Darke County. This funding will help fund the after-school mentoring program that pairs high school sophomore, juniors, and seniors with elementary students twice a month.

The High School Mentoring program, known as “Big Buddies”, is a nine month commitment where volunteer high school sophomores, juniors and seniors mentor elementary students two times a month at a local school. This year the agency has sites at Northwood, Longfellow, Whittier, and Emerson elementary schools in Sidney, as well as Versailles, Woodland Heights, and Ansonia elementary schools in Darke County, with over 65 children being served in these programs by nearly 85+ mentors. “The Cargill Cares team is such a wonderful supporter for Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County. This donation will go towards the curriculum that we use at the 7 after school program that we have. We are fortunate to have a wonderful corporation such as Cargill in our community.” Big Brothers Big Sisters Executive Director, Jennifer Bruns.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Shelby & Darke County is a nonprofit United Way member social service agency whose mission is to develop and nurture quality relationships between children and volunteers. The relationship is meant to guide each child towards becoming a confident, competent, and caring individual. The agency currently has over 12 children waiting for a volunteer mentor in their lives. If anyone is interested in becoming a volunteer, you may call the office at (937)547-9622 or go to the BBBS website at www.bigbrobigsis-shelbydarke.org.
