Children will participate in activities that support cognitive, physical, social, emotional, and creative development. While play is the primary strategy used, it is planned and each activity has a purpose. Children are involved in decision-making and problem solving in a print-rich environment that includes blocks, manipulatives, computers, dramatic play, and sand/water centers. Books and early reading and writing activities are also an important part of the program.
Class planning takes place each week and is linked very closely to the children’s interests. Areas such as language and literacy, numeracy skills, science concepts and music and movement are covered during the week.
Edison’s Child Development Center holds accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). Additionally, the Center recently received a Five-Star Step Up To Quality Award from the Ohio Department of Job and Family Services, the highest rating in Miami County.
The Preschool at Edison is lead by director and teacher, Kelli Gerlach. Her teacher assistants are students currently enrolled in Edison’s Early Childhood Education program. Parents are important to the program and their participation and feedback is encouraged.
Those interested in enrolling their children are asked to contact Susie Staley, Secretary of the Child Development Center by calling 937.778.7984 or emailing sstaley@edisonohio.edu
