The Piqua Civic Band is proud to announce the appointment of Mr. Brett Poling as director. Mr. Poling has been a member of the band for over twenty years, serving as a frequent guest conductor for the past ten. He is a 1991 graduate of Piqua High School and is a 1995 graduate of the University of Dayton where he earned his Bachelor’s of Music Education degree. He earned his Masters in Education from Wright State University in 2007. Mr. Poling has been a music educator for twenty years, currently teaching music and drama at St. Luke School in Beavercreek, Ohio. Previously, he was the band director for Lima Central Catholic High School and Lima’s three Catholic elementary schools. He performs with the Piqua, Troy and Sidney Civic Bands and the Ohio Valley British Brass Band.
The Piqua Civic Band will begin its 2015 Summer Season at Hance Pavilion located in Piqua’s Fountain Park on July 2 at 7:00 p.m. Admission is FREE and all are welcome! On July 2 the band will help kick off the 4th of July weekend with “Great Americans,” a concert featuring the music of some of our country’s greatest. Dr. David Sievers, professor of vocal music at The University of Dayton, will be the band's guest vocalist for the evening. On July 9, the band will take a trip “Around the World in 80 Minutes.” Join the band for a whirlwind, non-stop flight around the globe as we celebrate the music of many different nations. Dr. Michael Houser will be the band's clarinet soloist for the popular "Stranger on the Shore." Dr. Brandon Jones, associate professor of instrumental music at Wittenberg University will lead the band as a guest conductor on July 16. The band will wrap up its season on July 23 by celebrating the “Musicians of Piqua, Ohio.” The concert will recognize and highlight many of the great musicians, past and present, who have called Piqua, Ohio home. The concert will be filled with audience favorites and feature the band's trumpet section with Leroy Anderson's Bugler's Holiday. The Piqua Civic Band wants to honor the people of Piqua who make our community great.
