Contemporary Art Exhibit at the Visual Art Center of Preble County

The Preble County Art Association presents Beyond Tradition, an exhibit that explores local artists making contemporary art. The exhibit includes artists Amy Kollar Anderson, David Ackels, Laura Ceville, Patrick Mauk and Kyle Wilson. These artists represent a variety of mediums including painting, screen printing, collage, mixed media and drawing. Anderson’s work brings to question identity and transformation as she blends old and new, surreal and real. Ackles, a Dayton native brings street art to the gallery walls with his urban culture inspired works. Ackels is best known for representing skateboarding as a filmmaker and board artist. Ceville is an artist who is always looking for new mediums to explore for her charming and lighthearted artworks. She has also used watercolor to create illustrations for her book My Dog Jack. Printmaking and painting are the primary art mediums for artist Patrick Mauk who creates abstracts that invoke emotions conjured up by thick lines of movement and punches of bright color. Eaton native and the youngest of the exhibitors, is Kyle Wilson whose beautifully crafted drawings bring viewers into a fantastical world filled with creatures that range from playful to fearful.

The exhibit opens July 10, 2015, 5:30-7:30 with Laura Ceville reading her children’s book My Dog Jack and providing free books, stickers and bookmarks while supplies last. A reception will immediately follow. The exhibit will be on display until September 4th. Hours and directions to the Visual Art Center can be found at www.takepartinart.net.
