A Winter Tour at the Museum

In celebration of the Holiday season, the Versailles Area Museum has transformed into a world of Christmas delights for our visitors to enjoy.

Come and enjoy seeing Art Gaier’s collection of fantastic antique bicycles which has now been held over by the overwhelming interest, and now in a winter setting.

You’ll see our 1900 kitchen a busy place to be wrapping presents and to pause and read the Christmas story. See how the old mercantile store was your place to shop.

Many paintings by our local artist, Harris Begin’s winter paintings are throughout the museum for you to enjoy.

Touches of Christmas will be found throughout the museum, featuring something special in each of our twenty rooms. Thanks to Judy Shappie there will again be a unique display of Santa’s through the years.

Don’t forget to see the wonderful toys made by local carpenter, C.F. (or as we locals remember “Pittsy” ) Pittsenbarger and painted by his wife Esther, a beloved music teacher in Versailles for many years.

Of course advertising for businesses long gone are displayed along with a trip to Martin’s Department Store. The 1990’s will be remembered as we hope to offer on Sundays in December the “Sounds of Christmas” produced by Towne & Country Players on the big screen in our Military Room.

But our show stopper this Christmas season is called “A Sweet Treat” the story of M&M’s. You will be amazed at the hundreds of M&M’s collectables to see the wonderful collection of Janet & Leo Rinderle. We will be sharing more about this wonderful collection in the weeks ahead.

So get into the spirit of the season and stop by any Sunday till December 18th from 1:00 until 4:00 with special tours available from Pre-School to Senior, we have something for everyone!

Remember our gift shop for that special book for someone on your list! Many local authors are featured. “Ho, ho, ho”, Santa says “don’t miss out on all the fun”!
