FM wins tourney game ... almost

Left: Emilee Morris. Right: Kinsey Goins
Franklin-Monroe took on Riverside at Greenville's Stebbins Field in regional softball tournament action Wednesday evening.

Riverside struck first with a run in the bottom of the first inning. Franklin-Monroe tied it up in the top of the second. The score remained ties until the top of the fourth inning when Senior Emilee Morris scored two runs with a clutch two-out hit. Junior Kinsey Goins followed Morris with a deep 2-run homer to left field. Franklin-Monroe added two more runs in the top of the fifth inning to take a commanding 7-1 lead.

Riverside was down to their last out in the bottom of the seventh inning when a lightning strike, and then heavy rain caused a delay.

The game will resume tomorrow, and barring a miraculous Riverside comeback, Franklin-Monroe will proceed to the regional finals, again in Greenville, currently scheduled for Saturday at noon.
