Fort GreeneVille DAR Hold Flag Raising for Memorial Day
In honor of Memorial Day, Fort GreeneVille Daughters of the American Revolution held a flag raising ceremony at the historical Studebaker Schoolhouse. The chapter members along with Greenville City Council President John Burkett, Veteran Don Dietrich of VFW Post 7262 and Jerry Wright raised the United States, POW/MIA and Ohio flags. As Chapter Regent Debbie Nisonger stated, "Your presence here today and that of the many people gathering all across America is a tribute to those lost troops and to their families along with our many Veterans. Our ceremony is just one small spark in the flame of pride and freedom that burns across the nation today and every day."
Also with the raising of the POW/MIA flag, a local Vietnam MIA, Major Douglas LeFever, was honored. LeFever served in the US Air Force as a pilot in the 497th tactical Fighter Squadron. He went MIA in Laos during a mission on Nov 5, 1969.
Following the raising of the flags, the Pledge of Allegiance was said. The ceremony ended with a prayer from Fort GreeneVille Chaplain Karen Burkett.
