Save A Life Tour visits GHS

According to the National Center for Statistics and Analysis, approximately 1,000 people are injured in crashes involving a distracted driver. In 2015, 3,477 deaths and 391,000 injuries were attributed to distracted driving. These numbers have steadily increased since 2010. Drivers between 16-20 years of age have the highest proportion of distraction related crashes.

The National Save A Life Tour visited Greenville High School on October 11th to discuss this with our students. This group presented a comprehensive high impact safe driving awareness program that informs, educates and demonstrates the potentially deadly consequences resulting from poor choices and decisions made by the operator of a motor vehicle. The program specifically places emphasis on the following driving situations: Distracted Driving, Impaired Driving, Driver Experience, Improper Driver Behavior and Seat Belt Usage. The Save A Life Tour utilizes several methods for educating including: video presentation, speaking presentation, interactive demonstration with simulators, pre and post surveys and take-a-ways including a pledge card and a wristband.

The program lasted about an hour. Students were then invited throughout the day to participate in simulations that will mimic distracted and impaired driving. Greenville High School was honored to host the Save A Life Tour and help educate and influence our students choices regarding distracted and impaired driving.
