2 Airlifted After Falling from the Bed of a Pickup Near Eldora

Update: On July 13, 2012 at approximately 10:27 AM Jerry C. Boes succumbed to his injuries sustained in the accident. William Powers is listed in fair condition at Miami Valley Hospital.

This accident marks Darke Counties ninth fatal accident on Darke County roadways in 2012.

Original Post: On July 12, 2012 at approximately 8:14 PM Darke County Deputies, along with Ansonia Rescue, Rossburg Fire, Spirit Medical Transport, and two CareFlight helicopters were dispatched to the 4400 block of North Star Ft. Loramie Road in reference to a one vehicle injury accident.

Preliminary investigation revealed a 2004 Ford F-250, driven by Holly Burlile, 33, Tiffin, Ohio, was traveling out of the Eldora Speedway camping lot on the North side of the race track onto North Star Ft. Loramie Road with four occupants in the bed of the truck. As the truck was leaving the lot, it was driven over a gravel incline which resulted in two of the passengers that were sitting on the tailgate to fall from the vehicle onto the roadway. William Powers, 53, Toledo, Ohio and Jerry Boes, 39, Las Vegas, Nevada were airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital. Mr. Boes is listed in critical condition and Mr. Powers' condition is unknown at this time.

This accident remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff's Office.
