Major renovations at the Darke County Courthouse

The Darke County Courthouse is currently undergoing major renovations on the first floor. As you can see in the photo, the old drop ceiling has been removed and the original imprinted ceiling - and a maze of wires - have been revealed. The drop ceiling height was approximately ten feet - and can be visualized by the large horizontal braces visible in the photo. The renovation will approximately double the prior ceiling height.

The work will also ultimately reveal original door casings which before were partially hidden behind the drop ceiling.

The first floor has offices for the county recorder, treasurer, and multiple offices for the county auditor.

A similar renovation was done for the second floor (common pleas court) several years ago. However, that project included a new decorative ceiling - as opposed to restoration of the original ceiling.

  1. Why are they remodeling the courthouse when they plan to add on to it in a couple of years. It just seems like a big waste of tax payer money.
