Several people have reported attempted fraud calls to their homes and businesses Sunday night. Greenville Federal customers have been frequent victims of similar scams in the past, but most of the reports from last night involve Greenville National Bank. The scammers are making calls in such a manner that they appear to be coming from innocent third parties. Two calls last night showed up on caller i.d. as being from Virginia and Florida.
In the scam, an automated message indicates that your account may have been breached - and your account number is requested. If you provide your account number, the scammers will then use the information to empty your bank account. Therefore, if you want to keep your money, do not provide this information over the phone.
