New discussion: $600,000 to upgrade the Greenville traffic circle

According to WHIO, this renovation of the traffic circle in Greenvile will cost about $600,000 with the cost being split between a grant from the Ohio Department of Transportation (80%) and the City of Greenville paying the balance (20%). Although the $600,000 is an estimate, that breakdown would be: ODOT - $480,000 ... Greenville - $120,000.

So what do you think?

  1. It sounds like a great bargain and improves the community in the process.

  2. I hadn't noticed that there needed to be much improvement made. I hated to see the beautiful trees taken down. I can think of many other ways to use $600,000 to improve our town.

  3. I think it is a waste of tax payer dollars that would be better spent trying to save some jobs. The curbs they are replacing were fine.

  4. I am pretty sure the bids for the job came in much lower than $600,000. Of course I read that in the Advocate so who knows.

  5. What I think is that this "New Discussion" is begging for people to dissent. My personal opinion is that even if it only costs the City of Greenville $500.00, it was certainly not of high priority to re-do the traffic circle.

And, I think you KNOW that is how the majority of people feel - it is a waste. And, are the contractors on the circle "local"? I highly doubt it.

  6. Seriously what are they trying to do for $600,000? The curbs arent that bad and trees arent quite that expensive. But I guess its all part of the use it or lose it plan right?

  7. I think this is a huge waste of tax payer money.I hope they don't put up more of those ugly lights like they have on the circle...Greenville needs a branded look - done by someone with taste (spend the money on that!)

  8. Well Well. Guess this will bring more bussiness to the area. "If it looks good, they will come" bla bla bla bla.

  9. This is a teriffic addition to Greenville's traffic circle and is part of the the original planning for the fountain project. If you calculate all the dollars spent, all the dollars donated, and all the dollars returned to Greenville taxpayers on this entire project, it equals a tremendous value.
