New poll - the Greenville EMS issue

Given the activity from the prior article, there is either: 1) a ton of interest in this story, or 2) or small number of people engaging in a lot of discussion. The new poll to the left should answer that question. Once again, the poll is set up to allow one vote per computer.

If you have a comment, leave it here.

I would hope people would look at the Feasiillity reports some what before placing their vote. One thing I noticed was the response from EMS was a lot clearer to understand for the normal citizen. Look to have had more fact base numbers. Rather than could be this if we do this numbers posted by the City's.
In these tough times I have yet to see any noticable cuts by the city. We have several area factories taking "down days" to save on cost. This means less money for the employees and less tax money for the city. Looks from the report no sacrifices will be made by the FD but a lot by EMS if FD takes over. I'm going to have to say Bad Ideal just based on the reports. I have lived here all my life and I'm very happy with what EMS has provided and looks to be very stable in the furture. And also what the FD has provided.

  2. Greenville residence are old school and do not know the first thing about EMS & Fire. However, moving from Greenville to a big city and becoming a firefighter and EMT myself, it works out so well especially if the need for a back up ambulance is needed and we have 4-6 FF on an engine at once. We pull off two EMT certified personnel and we go. Residence never think to ask "why" we do this. But if one person would ask, we'd all have the same explanation - it's for our community that we do this it's not just a living. If residence would be more open to change - the whole city would benefit from it. With the economy the way it is, people have to remember that sickness and injuries do not care. It's almost as though Fire and EMS are segregated and WHY???

    Past politicians is your answer.

  4. Bigger cities do have a lot of combination departments and they are having major budget issues. Greenville Rescue is NOT! The combination of the two is a trend we see a lot of that does NOT make it the right thing to do for the community. Why shouldn’t fire and EMS be segregated? They are very different jobs. Would you ever ask you banker to fix your plumbing? It is not in the best interest of the public.

  5. I would suggest that you shut down ALL comments on your site, it seems that you shut down the comments that do not agree with your thinking, or that get certain peoples "hackles" up, so just shut down your comments on all articles, and stay as biased as you are.

  6. David D., I believe only one EMS-related comment has been rejected - and that was because the anonymous commenter was accusing the mayor and fire chief of wrongdoing. I am not biased - I am still trying to get up to speed on this issue myself. I don't believe the posting of a poll and several public documents shows bias.

To 7-24-09 at 7:25 PM My name is Chip Fashner, and my signature line on MY WEB SITE has to deal with hunting not Fire or EMS. That web site was started by several of the dedicated City of Greenville Firefighters, But has nothing at all to do with the City. Also if you are going to talk (or point out) specific individuals be man or women enough to add your name! If not stay to the general subject, which our website has no bearing on, but thanks for the publicity. Seeing how a portion of those proceeds go to the shriners burn center for children, the kids thank you also.

Yes Chip - I now realize the commenter above was out of line. I'm shutting down comments on this one. Go to one of the newer stories if any of you want to continue the discussion.

  9. As a statement made in a comment "be a man or woman"..suggest that chief wolf attend the meeting personally to answer direct questions rather than hide behind his men. Obviously has a theory, while everyone else is getting their jobs cut, the city somehow got a 3% increase over the next three yrs. Is this the term "putting the screws to you"? Hmmmmm....

  10. I haven't seen any evidence that Chief Wolf is hiding behind his men. Let's keep to the issues and not devolve into personal attacks.

Would you please get your facts straight?! The 3.9% increased was given to the city employees 2 years ago in contract negotiations. That only came after negotiations were taken to an outside company who found that to be a reasonble raise.

  12. Maybe so, but it is stil to much for a city with a deficet who wants to start adding expenses by doing EMS.

Can you provide a SERB case number so that this can be verified?
What "outside company" found this to be reasonable?
What "company" would recomend a 3.9% wage increase for someone that lost 15% of their workload?

  14. Actually, I think it was 21% of their work load according to the power point show that the city put together to defend the twp from taking their runs away. I might be wrong, but...

  15. You don't need the SERB #, just get on their website & look for Greenville City. All the contracts for City are there.
