State Senator Fred Strahorn has been a frequent visitor to Darke County

Fred Strahorn was appointed Senator of Ohio's 5th Senate District in March of this year. The district includes central Montgomery County, all of Miami County, and several rural townships in southeast Darke County - incuding the Village of Arcanum. Darke County represents a miniscule percentage of the overall population of the 5th Senate District, and consequently prior Senators have rarely visited.

So far, Fred Strahorn has bucked that trend. He attended a Garst Museum fundraiser a few months back. He joined a meeting of legislators and The Anderson's during the height of the co2 controversy. And Strahorn was spotted again the other day at the Darke County Fair (and may well have come here on other occasions).

Giving credit where it is due, Strahorn has made a real effort to visit this part of his district.

Bonus question: can anybody name Strahorn's predecessor?

  1. Strahorn is like the opposite of Sherrod Brown, who never comes here but takes credit for anything good that happens.

It probably wouldn't interest you but Sherrod Brown attended the Darke County fair just last year after a roundtable discussion with local leaders and residents.

  4. Yes, but where was he during the co2 discussions? Wasn't he supposed to be here at some point? Andwasn't he just elected last fall? So his fair visit last year was only to gain votes.

  5. Who cares what is he doing to help with the economy in ohio?

  6. Uh, sorry but SB was elected in 2006. Remember the Democratic revolution that year where he smacked Mike DeWine? As a hardcore Republican I sure do. Ouch! Of course, look where that revolution has led Ohio the last few years. Not a pretty sight! I'm afraid the GOP got us in trouble and the Dems have only made it worse. Don't know Strahorn but good luck to him because being a Dem in 2010 could be as bad as being a GOPer in 06.

  7. I don't think Strahorn will have trouble getting elected to the seat in 2010 (or whenever he comes up for election). Just the make-up of the district is entirely too Democratic for purposes of sanity.

  8. I stand corrected, but it was an election year last year. Only reason he was here was to drum up votes.

  9. Yes, we certainly had an overabundance of sanity in past years--9-1-1!

  10. Senator Strahorn's predecessor was Tom Roberts who attended Democratic events and worked behind the scenes with The Farmer's Union. Fred Strahorn attended the "Faith into Action" NoCo2 event and spoke at the Arcanum Against Co2 Sequestration meeting. He participated in at least one agricultural event before the fair. I have both called and emailed his office and received rapid responses. Try it. senatorstrahorn@maild.sen.state.oh.us 614.466.6247
