Discussion: has your homeowners insurance gone up in Greenville Township?

At the time Greenville Township started its own fire service, critics claimed that homeowners' insurance rates would go up (since the residents would be covered merely by a volunteer force).

Since then, people affiliated with the township have claimed that nobody's rates went up. Others (like an anonymous chatter on this site) say the rates have gone up.

So here's the question posed to Greenville Township residents? Has your homeowners insurance gone up? And if so, name your insurance company and agent for verification. We'll check it out.

UPDATE: Information received from a township resident is that her insurance with State Farm has not gone up due to the change in fire service (and would not go up in the future on the issue of fire service, according to State Farm). Another commenter on the chat also said his rates with State Farm had not risen.

UPDATE #2: A Westfield customer also reports no increase in premiums due to the change in fire service.

UPDATE #3: Another Westfield customer with four properties also reports no increase (from the comments).

  2. If the rates have not gone up they will, going from a fully paid dept. to a paid on call dept., response times will be slower since they have to go to the fire house before responding, so by that alone the ISO rating will go up, the higher the rating the higher you pay for insurance, so if your insurance company said that it won't go up, they lied to you. Nothing against the township but it's a fact that paid on call or volunteer dept's will have slower response times.

  3. This claim about premiums was made before the township started their own fire department. The township's department has been in place for many months now. And nobody has come forward with evidence that rates have gone up. So now you're saying we have to wait around awhile longer - and then we'll see these huge rate increases? How long? When? Where's your proof?

There are a load of people here saying their rates haven't gone up, and your response is that the insurance companies are lying.

Seriously, if there's any industry out there who'll jack up prices if they have a reason, it's the insurance industry. My agent said her homeowner's insurance went up for other reasons, but not for fire service.

Show me the money. I'll believe it when I see it.

  5. Have General Casualty Insurance - No Rate increase.

Correct me if I am wrong but the ISO rating in the township, with a full time department, was 9. The rating after it went to Volunteer is 9 - NO Change. The ISO Rating can only go to 10 which is , I believe, the rating one would have if there was no fire department at all.

Greenville City's ISO Rating, per their website is a 4. Greenville has a Full Time Department.

Tipp City's ISO Rating is a 4 also, per their website, and they are a VOLUNTEER DEPARTMENT.

    Makes you wonder.

  6. The city ISO rating is a 4, but the township has always been an ISO rating of 9 and it was that way even when the city handled the township.

  7. I agree with September 24, 2009 6:45 AM. Sounds like the city firefighters are scared. They should be! My insurance has not gone up for fire reasons. It has simply because everything is going up. It is simply inflation and the times.

  8. Way to go Darke Journal, put that city firefighter in his place! The township fire has been there for almost 2 years (granted it's not a very good one) with no increase to insurance. I suppose the homeowners that live in the city will see an increase in their insurance rates too after the city reduces its fire department to part time and volunteer.

  9. I'm not trying to put anybody in his place. But I don't like being lied to. There are anonymous comments throughout this website about insurance rates going up in Greenville Twp. Yet - when the challenge is put forth, nobody can produce proof.

  10. can someone tell me how we chose the current twp firecheif and has anyone checked his credintials? i've heard some rumors and i would like to know....thank you

  11. Most of the rumors are probably true ... PS I don't think it really matters when you have certain trustees that are way to proud to admit they made a mistake, but they wont do what's best for the people that the township fire protects becuase they don't want to lose face. How sad

  12. I redacted a lot of your comment because it was a bunch of rumors about individuals. It's difficult to allow such comments when I don't personally know the truth.

If you want to research those items, show me your research, then maybe I'll do something with it.

  13. To the anonymous post of 10:31 Can you tell me what mistake was made? If you mean saving the taxpayers over $200,000 dollars in the last two years, and,( I suppose this is what galls you) having the same fire rating as before, then if that is your idea of a mistake, then yes we made one. The part that bothers me is this kind of talk has been going on for more than 2 years now, and I would think you people would get over it!! You are mad at the wrong people. All we did was make a descision based on the demands of the city. They are the ones you should be mad at. We were just looking out for our people. By the way, I live in the township, so all decisions made affected me also. Do you really think I wanted to hurt my friends and family just to tweak the city? How stupid would that be!? If anyone needs to see what we rejected from the city, call me. I'm in the book, and maybe you will then see why our decision was made. Learn the facts and you will see that the cities demands were ridiculous. I have the proof, just call.

  14. You don't have to do research for something everyone can see with their own eyes. He was given a vehicle for a volunteer department that does maybe 100-200 calls a year. Fact. No other volunteer chief in the county has a vehicle provided to him that is paid for and most other volunteer departments in the country do not provide a chief's vehicle for a department that does so few calls. Fact, just open your eyes and look. He goes on every call, major or minor. (The tree branch in the road is legit) Fact, listen to a scanner. He doesn't train his personnel, and his personnel do not have confidence in him. Fact, I know a few of them and they talk about it, why would they lie? His personnel show little regard for public safety with their personal vehicles when they get a call. Fact, many people have complained about it and seen it with their own eyes, I'm one and my wife has seen the same, and I know their has been a least one complaint filed with GPD. As for the application and resume, they wouldn't release that info when I asked for that so I can't prove that or that he is related to George Luce, but I'll work on it. Thanks

  15. Mike, the rest of my comment was blocked and had nothing to do with the city and what they wanted. If you could read and let your big head deflate a little bit, it had to do with the comment previously posted before mine @ 6:01pm about your current fire chief and how that is a mistake, because he doesn't have the experience he claims to have or train his personnel so we in the township would feel safer, but you're to proud to admit that or do something about it, like getting a real chief with experience, by the way I know a few experienced people that would talk to you if you're interested. But like I said, I'm sure you're to proud to admit there is anything wrong or anything needs changed.

  17. Mike, it's been a few days. Has Sep. 28, 9:58 AM called with any recommendations yet?

  18. NO, THERE HAVE BEEN NO CALLS.

  19. I know you Mike. You will not listen. You are always to busy running your mouth. You know that when your ex asst. chief got fired, your chief was involved with the whole tool thing. He was more guilty the your ex asst. chief.
