Greenville City Council unanimously votes against EMS proposal

The ad hoc EMS Committee's recommendation was read before council, and after an amendment was made to the report, each Council member voted in favor of the motion to take no further action on establishing EMS in the City of Greenville at this time. Several Council members spoke generally about working with Greenville Township in the future to explore areas of cooperation, including the possibility of a future joint fire/EMS district.

The full ad hoc Committee report is immediately below.

  1. Thank you city of Greenville for a wise choice. Hopefully you and the trustees can figure out a way to come together.

  2. I really applaud the city council for their decision. I think it was a wise one. I too hope that the township and the city can work together in the future to make decisions that are wise for all involved. I also want to specifically thank Todd Oliver, Leon Rogers, and John Baumgardner, for their work on the ad hoc committee.

However, please forgive my pessimism but I think there are a few in city positions that will not let this issue die. I think it will rear its ugly head again in the future, and not in a way that works for the taxpayers, the government agencies, or the employees of each.

  3. The township trustees have all ready shown they don't want to work witht the City of Greenville, so why do think it will change in the future.

  5. I would have to agree with Sept 16 10:58 am. That a few probably will not let this issue die. The reason I feel this way is that This issue should not have even gone this far......It should have died a long time ago...

  6. To whoever posted September 16, 2009 3:47 PM. You really don't know what your talking about. If its about the township starting their own fire department. Then you must not been around, when the city demanded an increase in fire protection for the township. It was crazy, the amount they wanted and it would increase over the years. If its about the city doing ems, then you still don't know what your talking about. Of course the trustees were not going to give up the ems levy. Why should they? They already have a very good rescue squad. There is no way the city could do it cheaper.

  7. If you're going to mention specific names, have the BALLS to sign your post!

  8. John Schmidt has nothing to do with any of the county fire dept nor does he have any authority over the county fire depts. Mark Wolf works with county fire depts on mutual aid but he doesn't control any fire department other then the City of Greenville.

  14. Do we have some hard feelings at the FD?

  16. You all are giving Adam a lot of crap. Where is your names tough guys. Your mouthing off and giving a lot crap about the same thing your doing, not posting your name!

  17. Adam ????
Apparently you didn’t understand my post and the point I was trying to make. “If you’re going to mention SPECIFIC NAMES, have the BALLS to sign your post!” I didn’t mention any name thus I didn’t sign my name. Wait, maybe start over and read this again so my actual point sinks in. If you are willing to post, either true or false, statements about specific people on here then have the decency to sign your name. Who knows maybe your concern would then be addressed.

  18. To September 17, 2009 8:39 PM, you did mention a specific name. Adam!!!! You mention Adam and did not sign your name on your post. Grow some BALLS, cry baby!!!!!

  19. To whoever posted on September 17, 2009 8:39 PM. You are nothing but a big cry baby. Get over it and move on. Why don't you put your name down. I know, you don't want anyone knowing who you are, or where you work. At least Adam put his first name down. You haven't even down that. You must be very upset you didn't get your way. So keep acting like a little baby. Maybe you should hold your breath and throw yourself to the floor.

  20. Parties on both sides made posts trying to defend their position on this issue, but it is done now. Things stay the way they are and there is nothing else that can be done, at this time. Yes, there are some hard feelings, rightfully so. But this constant bickering over a dead issue is futile. It makes public safety as a whole look really bad. We need to try and let it go and pick up where we left off. I know it won’t be easy, but we are professionals and we can do this.
