METH LAB & EXPLOSIVE DEVICE DISCOVERED

[Darke County Sheriff's Office press release] - On September 1, 2009 at 7:15 PM Darke County Sheriff’s Detectives responded to 4295 Hunter Road in Greenville Township to search the premises for stolen property. Upon arrival detectives did recover a stolen dune buggy among other possible stolen property. While searching a garage at that location detectives discovered a methamphetamine drug lab. The Darke County Sheriff’s Office Clandestine Drug Lab Unit responded to the scene and confirmed there was evidence of a recently active drug lab. While deputies were working to dismantle the methamphetamine lab they stumbled upon an apparent explosive device that had been made from a dummy grenade. The Dayton Police Department Bomb Squad responded to the scene and detonated the device in a controlled manner on the premises. The Dayton Bomb Squad also assisted Darke County deputies with collecting and removing evidence that could be used to make other similar devices. The Greenville Township Fire Department and the Greenville Township Rescue responded on this incident. A private contractor was called and cleaned up the hazardous materials from the drug lab. Emergency crews were on scene overnight for 16 hours. No citizens or officers were injured during this incident. The case remains under investigation by the Darke County Sheriff’s Office. Two adult subjects are being sought for questioning but no charges or arrests have been made at this time.

  1. Based on the preliminary evidence, the individuals involved are guilty of larceny and narco-terrorism. The scene as described borders one created by people that are criminally insane. The Sheriff’s department and officials involved should be congratulated and encouraged to continue their work. One question that should be answered: Isn’t this a matter of Homeland Security? If so what is the role of Homeland Security?

  2. You shouldn't judge people.........you don't know the whole story or even the people involved. This could be your mom, dad, brother, sister, aunt, uncle....whomever. People now a days get into ruts, drugs take over their lives......everyone is entitled to a second chance in life...FORGIVENESS IS THE KEY. They will pay for what they did and then they should be able to live a normal life once again!!

  3. I am so sick and tired of people blaming the economy for the bad acts that people commit! The bad economy only gives these people an excuse to keep doing the things that they have already been doing. Take a look at the criminals in Greenville and Darke County lately. These aren't "new" offenders; these are the same people who have been committing criminals acts since they were 8 or 9 years old. Stop blaming the economy and look at our criminal justice system.

I just heard on the news last night that Phillip Garrido (the guy recently arrested for kidnapping and raping Jacyee Dugard and holding her for 18 years)was sentenced to 50yrs to life on a 1972 kidnapping but only spent 11yrs in prison. How does that happen?

Why are we so concerned if our offenders don't have cable tv in jail, and not more concerned that these drug dealers could have caused the death of several people with their meth lab & explosives?

  4. To September 3, 2009 8:43 AM. You must be out of your mind. I'm sure these criminals have had more than a second chance. I'm willing to bet these people have been in and out of jail for a long time. They will never live a normal life, cause they don't want to. They would rather steal and deal drugs, than work a legal job. I guess it would be too hard for them to get up and work a 8 hour shift. I am all about forgiveness, but these people are not looking for forgiveness. They are looking for a free ride in life, by stealing from people who actually work.

  5. To 7:45 PM, you said that perfectly. To 8:43 AM, you say " They will pay for what they did and then they should be able to live a normal life once again!!" Excuse me!! They get out of jail and become repeat offenders...over and over again. They rarely learn by their mistakes.

  6. With these Meth labs, they are not only putting their lives in danger, oh well, but they are also putting their neighbors, any EMS or Fire Personel, or Law Enforcement lives in dangers.

  7. They should of shot the criminals and left them to rot in a field.

  8. With the meth lab, the bombs, the materials to make more bombs, why is there not homeland security in place? What about the neighbors who have children? If they want to continue to inflict pain and stupidity on themselves let them rot in the field as 6:09 said, why are Darke County criminals allowed to continue to be criminals? Step up to the plate Judge and make them pay!!! They need to pay thier time and quit making the innocent people pay for what they do illegal. Come on get real with this sentence; bombs, illegal meth lab, illegal firearms, stolen property, hiding out, what more does one criminal have to do?????????? BOOK THEM FOR GOOD!!!!!!! Why do hard working citizens keep paying for them!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  10. ....Now to top it off, someone has bailed him out. Now we have a bomb making, illegal meth lab producing thief who is has already ran from the sheriff once back on the streets. WOW what a justice system we have. How many chances does one person get??? guess it depends on who your family is and how many times they are willing to try and bail you out!!!!! Makes me sick to think anyone would want to stand behind all of this and help him out like what he did was right or something. Sept 8 10:13 AM I Totally agree!!!!!

  11. A second chance??? What about all the times they didn't get caught??? OH, I get it, this must be the first time ever doing something like this, Right! Doubt it, I would be curious to see the the arrest history here. How many times did they pay the right attorney the right amount of money to get them off, and it leads to this!

  12. Yea, bailed out with a minimal fine and on the streets for how long?? & who knows until he goes to court?? & Where is this person?? Back at the candy store that he created in his own back yard, sitting on peoples property that he stole??? What is up with our system?? Where are the inducing panic charges, the larceny charges, & who is paying for the 16 hours the squads, bomb squad, sherrifs, detective and such were on the scene? Oh yea, and what about those bombs? I thought it was illegal to have a bomb but not for some and lets let him make more!!! Lets check into the people that bailed him out, maybe they are guilty also? Come on Darke County GET REAL!!! Why are we paying for their mistakes, there is people sitting in jail right now that does not have the record he has!! Lets hope they do something soon before MORE innocent people are harmed. Makes you wonder if your children are safe!!!???

  13. Are we not living in an era that a person is innocent until proven guilty? Is that not the law of this land? Or, are we acting as judges, even though most of us live in glass houses, and pretending that only the people who get caught are guilty. Then there are the so-called Witches of Salem during the 1600's where innocent people were burned at the stake because of the vengeance of the mob mentality. As so-called Christians, is it not our obligation to extend kindness and forgiveness as Christ did with Peter who denied him 3 times. WHERE IS THE COMPASSION & LOVE for thy neighbor.

  14. Is it not the law of the land a person is innocent until proven guilty? Where is the Christian spirit of forgiveness? Even Christ forgave Peter who denied him three times! The women of Salem were called witches and burned at the stake for going against the grain of society because of the small minded vengeance of a mob mentality. Maybe you should take a step back, look into the mirror and ask yourself whether you would want to be judged by someone not in possession of all the facts. This two-bit Bible belt town is filled with self-righteous hypocrites!

  15. Compassion and love for they neighbor????? What about the compassion and love for his children who have had to put up with and go through all of this their WHOLE life. Sept 17 at 9:53 and 10:04 PM you must not know who you are talking about and you must not know the facts or even a fraction of the facts to be sticking up for him!!!

  16. HMM I think Sept 17 9:53 & 10:04 should get out the Bibles and do some bible studying!! Christian Spirit and Forgiveness? What about the physical harm he has done to not only his body (our body is Gods creation)but ask yourself about what this person has done to his children, his parents, siblings, grandparents? Why should innocent people keep paying for this type of behavior? Sept 17,2009 10:04 pm maybe you should get all the facts straight about this situation.About looking in the mirror, don't look to long, because I think you will see the true face of what you call a two-bit bible belt town self righeous hypocrite!!!!! Someone that wants to talk about Christian spirit just slammed ALL christians in this county by "judging" Get your facts straight on this story and then come on back and make some comments. I guess by the way you act, you think Meth labs, bombs, stolen items, are your idea of everyday life. You might think these our Christian ways. Well I am here to say that is NOT a Christian way of life. Forgiveness?? How many times does one get? Maybe you should read John 3:18-22. What are you judging your facts on???????
