The House health care bill passed last night

The final vote was 220-215. The Democrats had 30+ members break ranks and vote against the bill. Every Republican but one also voted against. Interestingly, the biggest fight of the night (mostly Democrats vs. Democrats) was over the Stupak amendment, which would forbid most abortion funding with public money. The Stupak amendment passed. And so now the bill goes to the Senate, where a whole new round of negotiations will begin.

  1. It's not perfect, but it's a good step forward.

  2. Sen. Joe Lieberman said he would not vote for any bill that has a public option, without his vote the dems can not break a filibuster.
Unless something changes this bill is done.

  4. The biggest question that we should ALL be asking is, if this is such a good idea why don't the Congress, Senate and the President take the SAME coverage!!!

  5. This whole thing just scares me. Someone once said that a strong country will destroy itself from within. I think that this health care business is just the beginning. Not that I don't think we need to do something to make health care more affordable to everyone-but what's going on in D.C. at the moment just doesn't seem "feel" right.

  6. Oh, one more thing... we won't be allowed to vote on this for the following: What we all want would make too much sense; probably be cost effective, and above all... the congress, senate and president would have to use it to and they just wouldn't lower themselves to OUR standards. (Just my .02)

  7. 12:57 AM - I agree, we should be able to vote. Unfortunately, that'll never happen because they know it won't pass! A liberal won't ever let public outcry deter them from passing legislation we don't want. After all, it's for our own good, we just aren't smart enough to realize that. Thank goodness they are there to do the thinking for us.

We will not be able to vote because we are a Republic and keep electing the same people to vote for us. Statistically,(and historically) every law passed is opposed by at least 70% of the people. So,, welcome to America.

  11. As a Democrat, I applaud the inclusion of the Stupak amendment. But it obviously is not seen as reaching across the aisle by the other side.
