New poll - terrorists on trial in New York City

Khalid Sheik Muhammed, the confessed matermind of the 9/11 terrorist attacks, and four of his associates will be brought from Guantanomo Bay to New York City for civilian trials. What do you think about that?

AMUSING UPDATE: Here's an uncomfortable quote:

"There are also those prisoners of war who we have captured and will capture in Afghanistan and other countries who will receive a trial of some sort. It is clear we need to try those suspects in a forum that achieves two primary goals—two goals, I might add, that may not conflict. First, the Government must have the power to use even the most sensitive classified evidence against these suspects without compromising national security in any way, shape, or form. In addition, those who commit acts of war against the United States, particularly those who have no color of citizenship, don’t deserve the same panoply of due process rights that American citizens receive. Should Osama bin Laden be captured alive—and I imagine most Americans hope he won’t be captured alive. But if he is, it is ludicrous to suggest he should be tried in a Federal court on Center Street in Lower Manhattan." ........ Charles Schumer (2001)

  1. According to this administration, "never let a good crisis go to waste." Apparently, they are also considering never letting an opportunity to put our country (or the past administration) on trial go to waste, either.

  2. I think that if this had been done under the previous administration, this blog would have said it is a great and justified action.

  3. This website didn't exist until February. But on my prior website, I was a vocal proponent of Guantanomo Bay. I still think it's a great deterrent to terrorism.

  4. The way I see this whole situation is that we are either a Nation that believes and stands behind the Constitution and Bill of Rights, or we aren't. You cannot have your cake and eat it too. There is not a Constitution/Bill of Rights for Situation A or Situation B.

  5. The Constitution grants rights to citizens, not foreign terrorists. They are war criminals and should be treated as such.

  6. If they are war criminals then they are from an army... If they are from an army they are protected by the Geneva convention...

  7. He is a dirtbag terrorist, that does not deserves any rights afforded to Americans. He amitted guilt, period. There should be no trial for him or his associates. Maybe if we televise putting a bullet in their foreheads, other terrorist will know we are not a weak nation.

  9. Televised execution will do no good. Keep in mind we’re dealing with radical Islamic terrorists. They would be seen as martyrs and heroes. The Quran is full of verses promising greater rewards in the afterlife than in the current life. These people aren’t afraid to die. That’s why suicide bombing is such a common method of terrorism.

  10. you want to watch someone be executed? Who is the dirtbag again?

regardless of how you feel about where their trial should be held, losing all sense of civility and decency, let alone intelligence is not a requirement.

  11. To Anonymous November 20, 2009 12:42 PM. I never said i wanted to watch the terrorist be excuted, dumbass! I said it should be televised for the world to see that, we are not a weak nation. That we will fight back with all force to keep our great nation safe. I don't want my country to be like the middle east, where you are scared to go to the store cause of terrorists waiting to blow everyone up.

  12. John H:
By your logic the terrorists should be viewed as strong indeed, after their beheading of Americans on the worldwide web.

  13. They are strong enough to attack America and kill over 3,000 people. We should not under estimate these killers. They kill innocent people, period! We should not put them in jail, where there is a chance for them to get out some day.
