Courthouse evacuated - Broadway blocked off

A smoking electrical outlet prompted the evacuation of the Darke County Courthouse today at approximately 9:45 a.m. Broadway was blocked off in front of the courthouse, with the Greenville Fire Department investigating. No smoke or fire could be observed coming from the courthouse. Many courthouse employees were seen fleeing to Broadway Joe's.

  1. Well at least it gave the city fire department a run. It must get boring for them guys, being at the fire station 24/7 and having only one call every couple of days.

  6. How is giving my opinion that being on a full time department, with a low run volume would be boring, is a dumbass remark? Unless you are offended, cause I'm talking about your work. I just call it as i see it. I can live with it also. I'm not the one wasting taxpayers money.

You show those Greenville firefighters who's boss John H. You and everyone else know the city could save hundreds of thousands of dollars by going to a part time/ volunteer department here in Greenville.

  8. Dear more common sense,

Unfortunately you are very wrong about that comment, as a full time FF in the Dayton area; you can not compare part time and volleys to full time. I give all the respect in the world to volley's and part timers but Full Time personnel, are better trained, spend more time learning the trade, and much more. We go to work and do Firefighting all day. To give you an example it's like the difference between a Paramedic and an EMT. I'm not saying there aren't good department's in Darke County that are volleys but the fact is Full Time personnel is the better option. I'm sure if you had a fire and someone trapped inside the best bet to get them out is someone how has more training and more schooling. As far as the Greenville and Greenville Township thing, well it's here to stay and everyone will have to learn to love it, but in my opinion the area has taken a step backwards.

I would expect a comment like that from a fellow ketchup weiner Mr Dayton area FF. If you would read what John H was talking about with a full time dept with such a low run volume you might understand our point. How many true structure fires a year does the city of Greenville do in a year. I'll bet you can count on one hand how many. As far as having a fire and someone trapped, how many kids did the FD save over on Montgomery street fire a couple of years ago? None and the station isn't even a half mile away! Around the country, many full time FD's are closing or cutting back because they aren't needed. The run volume has changed from fire to ems and will continue that way. Think about it, the GFD budget for manpower is over 1 million a yr, which averages out to them charging the city and its taxpayers between $2000-3000 a run. What does Greenville Area Rescue charge? I heard it's way less, more like $200-300 a run and they have 5 to 6 times the call volume the city FD has. Kind of makes you wonder huh? I wouldn't expect a FF like yourself to understand, I've heard the stories of the patient care Dayton Fire provides to its residents, pretty piss poor if you ask me.

  10. Dear More Coomon Sense,

You really don't get it. Yes, I believe one life is worth it and EMS gets more money than that. They not only get tax monies, but bill insurance, and soft bill. Three sources to get money. Yep, I can't deny FD's are cutting back, our roll is changing, Even Greenville should get with the times you said so your self. Why isn't Fire and EMS together? I even got you upset, logic says one department rather than three. Look at all the vehicles that are duplicated.

Sincerly, Ketchup Weiner Mr Dayton Area FF.

  11. If you combined the two you would have a department full of ketchup weiners like yourself that cared nothing about patients and taking care of them unless you kept the paid professionals at Greenville Rescue. Like I said before, full time FD's like Dayton are full of people that want to run fire, so when they HAVE to run a shift for the EMS side, patient care is piss poor, what's that sir, you're having chest pain, or I'm sorry maam you're giving birth now, OK walk out to the ambulance and we'll drive really fast to the hospital! Nothing but a bunch of lazy incompetent firefighters TRYING to provide patient care. I'm not upset, I just have a lot more common sense than a ketchup FF like yourself. There also wouldn't be 2 FD for the city and the township if the GFD fire chief and his puppets wouldn't have gotten greedy.
