Global warming strikes Darke County

  1. In related news, no one was murdered in Darke County yesterday marking the official end to murder in the world. :)

  2. Carrying that idea a little further ... when a bunch of politically-motivated liberal scientists fabricate a bunch of evidence to support their theory of global warming, that does not count as proof that global warming exists.

  3. Love it! When are the "believers" going to realize that there is no global warming - is't just the natural evolution of the planet.
Since Washington got hit with 15+ inches of snow today.....is Al Gore there telling them it's an illusion?

  4. What would be the reasoning behind fabricating evidence? What would they gain from falsifying information?

  5. Riiiiiiight. It snowed in Ohio in December, therefore climate change is fake. Right-wing logic at its finest.

  6. Jeff, My overly-simplistic conclusion was meant to poke fun at the fraudsters who have made up global warming with their bogus "science." There's a little nuance there that you and commenter #1 seemed to have missed.

To LL: they did it for money, fame, and acceptance in their liberal circles. Al Gore has made millions on this crap. You don't think these scientists are also cashing in somehow?

  7. "Overly - simplistic" a perfect way to describe the right wing conservative neo-con. They will call what 90% of the scientific community says is occurring as a fraud but will believe Dick Cheney's lies when it comes to the truely bogus war in Iraq. The only scientist that say that man is not a major contributor to climate change are the ones paid by Exxon-Mobil.

If 9 out of 10 doctor tell you that you have cancer you try to combat the disease or you can hunt for the 1 that tells you that you are fine. This might make you feel better but in the end you die prematurely without ever trying to combat the disease.

    How sad!

  8. Let's see....Do I believe 90% of the scientific community, or do I instead choose to believe someone with much greater expertise and knowledge, like Glenn Beck, Neil Bortz, or Rush Limbaugh? What a tough decision.....not.

  9. Steve to try to compare global warming to cancer is foolish at best. Doctors can see and prove cancer is in someones body. Global warming is a theory, that has not been proven. Please explain to me why the earths core has actually gotten slightly colder and not warmer if global warming is so true. I would want to listen to Glenn Beck, Neil Bortz, or Rush Limbaugh way more than Al Gore. Al has gotten really rich off suckers like you, LL, and Jeff. I know lets just pledge 100 billion a year, that we(USA) don't have. Tell me its not about the money.

  10. There are two issues with what I'll call "climate change". People tend to incorrectly discuss them as being the same.

    1. Is there climate change/global warming?
    2. If yes, is it really caused by human activity or is it part of a natural cycle (in other words, beyond our control)?

So while people may cite evidence of climate change, that doesn't necessarily mean we are the cause. Looking back across thousands of years, I believe we absolutely have climate change. It would be unreasonable to think climate will always be the same as it is now. I'm not convinced though that our activities have any significant affect.

  11. John H,
I wasn't comparing Climate Change to cancer I was comparing Scientist to doctors. Climate change is real and man does contribute to that change - period. That is a fact. Man, all of mankind, every generation has affected this. Mankind can not clear cut all of the trees and then produce more carbon than the remaing trees can absorb. Basic science. The atmosphere that protects the earth also acts as a huge bubble that holds all of the excess carbon in our atmoshere. The carbon then acts like a blanket to trap heat. Since man is cutting the trees and man is producing tons upon tons of excess carbon through cars, trucks, power plants etc. I would say that man is contributing to climate change.
I go back to my original point we ca believe the 1 scientist that says this is crap and ultimately the earth ends prematurely or we can try to reverse the damage already inflicted.

  12. The Climate has been changing way before man had anything to do with it. I think I am going to come up with some scam, like global warming/climate change and make millions. All I need to do is market it right, just like Al Gore did. Anyone with any idea's please let me know. If I use your idea and make millions off people, I will cut you in on some of the money. Why do hard work the rest of my life, when i can just scam people about our climate.

  13. How many millions has Beck, Bortz, Limbaugh, and their ilk made off of people like yourselves? They are laughing all the way to the bank. Even if they believed human-related climate change to be true, they would not admit it. They wouldn't admit anything related to the liberal agenda to be true even if they thought that it was. Why? Because they would be giving up too much in the way of power, prestige, and money.

  14. LL,
I guess we are both suckers. Or maybe they won't admit anything related to the liberal agenda, because its not whats best for America. I do believe we should take care of the earth, but not to the extent that Al Gore or other liberals take it. How can we even think about pledging 100 million or was it a billion a year.
My personal opinion is the earth will end when God is ready for it to end, and nothing we do will extend that day. Again i do believe we should take care of the earth and be good stewards.

  15. I've heard more than one smoker say the same thing, to some extent: "When it's time for the Lord to take me home, that'll be it. I'll go." While I agree to some extent, I also agree that our foolish and careless behavior speeds up the process needlessly. The extreme would be for me to take up skydiving for a living and be careless with caring for my parachute. My chances of "The Lord being ready for me" speed up greatly.

Part of our problem today is that we cannot see the pollution as much as we used to. At the end of the 19th century and into the 20th, we were spewing black coal smoke into the atmosphere, which was incentive enough for us to make some changes. Now our pollutants are much more subtle, yet even more dangerous because of their inherent subtlety.
