As of 2:00 PM on December 28th, 2009, Darke County is under a Level 1 Snow Advisory/Emergency due to blowing and drifting snow. Level 1 is when all roadways are hazardous. Extreme caution should be used if travel is necessary. Road crews are making good progress; however, many roads are still extremely slick and snow covered.
Travel is not being limited at this time; however, blowing and drifting snow is causing some roadways to become slick and hazardous.
Thank you for your patience during these extremely trying times. [DCSO press release composite]
UPDATE: As of 8:30 AM on December 29, 2009 Sheriff Toby L. Spencer has cancelled all snow emergencies for Darke County.
Many roadways remain slick and hazardous and extreme caution is urged if travelling.
Is there a reason that they dont start on the roads when they first start getting bad?
ReplyDeletethe roads were bad all day yesterday. even road crews need sleep.
ReplyDeleteand even so, there's only so much they can do. some roads are still a mess, but you can't expect it to all be done immediately.
ReplyDeleteI saw salt trucks out at the beginning of the snow fall and have seen plows out since. I haven't been out the entire time, obviously, but just because you didn't see any doesn't mean they weren't out.

ReplyDeleteYou're right. They should start plowing the snow before it falls in order to get a head start.
How is the levels of road emergencies going to be broadcasted? Since we don't have a good newspaper and many of the Darke Countians does not listen to WGTR; is the county going to let other media know or should we call the SO to verify
ReplyDeletesorry charlie, all the local tv stations had it on the 6:00 news.
ReplyDeletePer the article in the newspaper it will be posted on the sheriff's office website at www.darkecountysheriff.org and relayed to all the local media outlets. They request that you do not call them for any kind of road or weather information.
ReplyDeleteI was just asking a damn question there is no reason to get hostile.I didnt no they was out I just wondered. That is why people are afraid to leave comments on this sight.People take every thing to seriuos.
ReplyDeleteTo the anonymous of Dec 29 3:43 pm--The Level one was issued at 2:00 pm and on the News at 6 pm. To my calculations this is 4 hours to late. Darke Countians need a quicker method of receiving the proper information.
ReplyDeleteI was in Dayton all day and I knew at 3 that we had a level 1 while watching the local stations. Saw it on 7

ReplyDelete1) you didn't just ask a question, you made an accusatory assumption that there was something wrong (which had a strong connotation of a complaint).
2) there's nothing wrong with the site, and no was hostile. I'm not sure what response you were looking for, but I'm not sure I'd expect anything else.

How the hell are they supposed to plow the snow before it starts to fall?
On the Sheriffs website you can sign up to be notified via telephone when snow emergencies are issued.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe getting this information out any sooner will help, people don't use common sense anyway.
