Today is the day that the Colony Restaurant becomes a pile of rubble. Opened in 1970, it closed last year. For most of that time, the Colony Restaurant was operated by Larry and Sandra Buschur - before selling the restaurant a few years back. The lot has since been purchased by Mercer Savings Bank.
(thank you to Bob Rhoades for the photos)
Sad to see it go, too bad Sandy and Larry Buschur still didnt own it, they had a good business until they sold it.
ReplyDeleteKinda sad. I remember eating alot in ther with my parents when i was young and now they are both gone. I feel like part of my memories are gone.
ReplyDeletedoes any one know what there going to build there?
ReplyDeleteMercer Savings Bank is building there...since they are the owners.
ReplyDeleteThat's sad, I always enjoyed the Colony. Much better than Vint's.
ReplyDeletejust what we need is another bank when their is no jobs in greenville.
ReplyDeleteThis is very sad day . . . for my cardiologist. :) PS. Strawberry pie-yum.
ReplyDeleteAre they actually BUILDING a bank? Probably just another drive-thru or maybe even a parking lot.
ReplyDeletei remember as a kid growing up,mom and dad would take us there to eat.and then,i took my family there also to eat.it was really great food and good times there. remember those little red baskets, the french fries were in.those were the days, never forgotten, just remembered.
ReplyDeleteI remember when it was built, originally as “The Hasty Tasty “ (sp?).
ReplyDeleteYes it is really going to be a bank.I dont know why we need another bank. Its not like any body has any money to put in it.
ReplyDeleteWe're not getting "another bank." Mercer Savings Bank is already here: bank at 3rd & Broadway, and drive thru at Washington & Devor. The county records indicate that Mercer paid $220,000+ for the lot, so I kind of doubt they got it for more parking.
ReplyDeleteI am going to miss the Colony. It was a nice lunch place for us downtowners.
I remember walking to the pool with my friends when I was little and stopping in there for fries & a soda on our way home. I'm going to miss that place.
ReplyDeleteMan, another case of you don't know what you got until it's gone. The post about walking to the pool gave me a flashback to the old pool and riding my bike all over town. Basically, we ran free as long as we were within earshot of our house when the dinner call came. Today, I'm afraid to leave my kid out in my own front yard unattended. Where have you gone Joe DiMaggio?
ReplyDeletesad to see, i hear Mercer Savings Bank plans on building there bc they want the bank and drive tru all in one like all other backs
ReplyDeleteI'll always miss the colony and the good memories of eating there. The post office should of purchased the property and built a modern post office facility instead of investing in a golden roof or added sufficient parking. It should suprise no one that a bank is buying the property, considering they create money out of thin air and then charge interest for money they never had in the first place.
ReplyDeleteAnother bank just what we need, especially in that location. Sad to see the old COLONY go, many good memories there growing up. So I guess that means another EMPTY building for downtown Broadway since MERCER will be moving ...
