Open thread: Tiger Woods

He's deeply sorry for his behavior. What do you think?

  1. I think the press needs to leave him alone. If it was one of us no body would care.So I think they need to back off and give him some space.

  2. Who cares? If my husband was cheating on me he it would not make the national or international news, he wouldn't be making a public apology. Granted Tiger is a public figure but does that give the media the right to badger him. If the media was not involved we probably wouldn't be hearing about his months later and we probably would not have the president we have today. The media has lots of influences, too bad they dwell on the bad things and not the good

  3. Like so many other high profile sports figures, Tiger had the opportunity to be a good role model for our youth. He chose otherwise. He has been in the spotlight and probably told what to say and do for so long that he finally found his own way to control his pathway. Too, too bad that this is what he will be remembered for. Maybe this is why people need to stop putting multi-millionare sports figures up on a pedestal. It's too easy to fall off!

  4. Tiger did wrong, no doubt it… however it is between him, his wife and children. The media need to go back to just reporting the news, and get rid of their opinion.

As far as a public figure and role model, I agree to a point, however he unlike other sports figures who negotiate a long term contracts and are paid even if they lose or get hurt, Tiger only earns if he plays golf & wins… if he does no play or does not win he earns nothing from golf. So although it is close, it’s different.

I think he did wrong, but it is not my business.

  5. He's human. He made a mistake. He deserves the same forgiveness that every one of us want when we screw up and try to make amends. How much more can the man do? He's lost money, probably will lose his family, and is clearly disgraced by this. He was a star from his childhood, people fawned over him from his youth. Children like that grow up with a distorted sense of reality, and don't necessarily understand consequence the same way. For all of you parents out there that push your kids to the extreme in sports, this is the exact thing that you're setting them up for in life. Don't say not my kid. Your kid is human like the rest of the planet.

  6. Who cares about Tiger Woods personal life? What he does in his personal life is just for him and his family to resolve. I agree he is in a position where he is a role model for the youth, but then again they should be looking up to him for his play on the golf course and not what he does in his bedroom. So in that aspect he is still a rolemodel for others.

  7. They are all sorry after they are caught! Woods, Edwards, Stanford, the list goes on and will go on forever.(It's biological stupid) It will never stop, but that is life. The problem is the American media has convinced itself that this is news people want. They are wrong!

  8. He was on top of the world for so long - he had nowhere to go but down. He just fell a little harder and faster than most. As for his press conference today, it was very well scripted, he delivered it well and with a fair amount of contrition, but I still think he is a man fallen from grace.

  9. I would have to compare him to a hunter or fisherman. A hunter and fisherman of big game and fish likes to collect as many trophies as he can.
Tiger was just interrested in seeing how many white women he could claim for his trophy list of memories.

  10. Not news worthy to me!

  11. Even though I am no real BIG fan of either GOLF or Tiger Woods I do however feel that regardless of social economic status ones personal life should remain private and his right to privacy as with many other celebrities in the mass media is sensationalized for profitability. HIS poor choices and serious errors in judgements are HIS own and should be between HIM and his FAMILY. What gets me is professional news organizations (print, internet & television) whom think its okay and proper to give such matters airtime as if these type of issues are NEWSWORTHY events. I think he is deeply sorry for his beahvior, usually people are once they get caught. But from what I saw today in his "prepared" speech it came across genuine & sincere even if it was a bit rough around the edges. He is HUMAN afterall and from time to time people make mistakes, some more serious than others obviously. I say ENOUGH is ENOUGH on issues like this leave the gy alone and let EVERYONE in public life be already. I could care less who is pregant, who is sleeping with whom, who is in rehab this week or anything else. A person's private life should be just that PRIVATE. Isn't there enough SERIOUS matters going on in the Uninted Sates and the rest of the world that we really need to focus on and discuss besides these types of issues? Give it a rest already I say ...

  15. John Mayer recently had the answer for Tiger (and probably several other of these high profile sexcapade stories) in a recent interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

  16. I noticed on the news that the women feel like they are owed an appology for what he done to them. Ha, ha, ha. Now that is a laugh.

  17. I find it appalling that so many of you consider cheating on your wife a normal thing. The pain of this choice often impacts the people involved & those around them for a lifetime. I agree that the details of Tiger's affairs should remain between him and his wife. It reminds us of how fragile the human ego is - and how painful the consequences of sin really are when we make ourselves the only source of authority. Pick someone else for your kids to look up to - and enjoy Tiger for what he chooses to be - a great golfer and nothing else.

  18. The One free of sin can throw the first stone-
So none of us should try! We are all down sometimes and need forgiveness. Annie
