Volunteers needed

Volunteers are needed to assist HandsOn West Central Ohio, a program of Council on Rural Services, with a much-needed fundraiser. More than twenty volunteers are needed to count ballot results from the Daily Advocate’s annual Reader’s Choice Awards on Wednesday and Thursday, February 3 and 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. at the office of Council on Rural Services, located at 116 East Third Street in Greenville. In exchange for completing this project, the Daily Advocate will donate $500 to HandsOn West Central Ohio to fund the program in Darke County.

Anyone interested in volunteering should be at least 16 years old. Children ages 6 and older are welcome to assist with their parents. Registration for this opportunity is not required and volunteers may simply come to the office during the times listed above.

An opportunity that is also eligible for the “Give a Day. Get a Disney Day.” program offered by Disney and HandsOn Network, volunteers who count ballots may register online via www.disneyparks.com to receive a free ticket to a Disney theme park as a reward for their service.

“In a down economy, this opportunity will help us fill gaps in funding where our primary funders have fallen short,” says Nicolette Winner, HandsOn West Central Ohio Director. “Not only will these dollars help our program provide services to nearly 50 nonprofit organizations in Darke County during 2010, but it’s a great chance for individuals to earn a free ticket to a Disney theme park through the ‘Give a Day. Get a Disney Day.’ program.”

To learn more about this opportunity, call HandsOn West Central Ohio at (937) 548-8002, ext. 211, or sbaker@councilonruralservices.org. Interested individuals may also contact the program’s main office by calling (937) 778-5220, ext. 430, or emailing nwinner@councilonruralservices.org.
