Many times a corpsman functions as a corpse-man. That still does not excuse the mispronunciation. But I wonder how many of those deriding the miscue could have correctly pronounced the word before today?
"There's an old saying in Tennessee — I know it's in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — [pauses] - shame on you. Fool me — You can't get fooled again. " (YYEEAAAAAHHHH!!!!!)
this is an embarrassing slip considering he is the commander in chief... but i think he has avoided any "doofus" style gaffes so far.
Letterman likely won't do much with it because it just isn't that funny. Maybe worth a quick jab, but just on a pure comedy level... not that funny.
I believe that anyone with a decent education knows the pronunciation of the word "corps". However, every single person that works in Washington D.C. or the political arena anywhere should NEVER mispronounce a word like that. DJ is exactly right - the man is the commander in chief. As a veteran of the marine CORPS, I am completely appalled by this gaffe.
Give me a break DJ. We all know this guy is brilliant. Feel free to criticize his policies but don't embarrass yourself by criticizing his intelligence or his speaking ability. Last week, he walked into your party's congressional luncheon and handed them their hats. It was an amazing display. He took an open-ended, no- restrictions peppering from the best your party had to offer and by all fair-minded accounts he not only defended his positions ably but his very presence showed political courage we haven't seen in a long time. George Bush would never have dreamed of attempting something like that. Why would he? It's incredibly stupid to take the chance unless you're actually trying to show a willingness to find common ground. Really. That occasion and Obama's handling of it was an historical moment and convinced me that, for the first time in a while, the man responsible for handling the extremely complex issues facing our Country might have the intellect to deal with them. To not mention the event on DJ is understandable given your political views. To instead jump on the "corpseman" comment is beneath you and exactly the kind of thing that keeps us in this intractable political mess.
Darke Co. has a lot of local dialect (which includes mispronunciations), as do all areas. The topic here is the fact that the prsident of United States mispronounced a word that is a main part of the service branches which he is supposed to be leading.
Go ahead, stand up for this socialist that is dragging our country into the bowels of hell.I don't really care that he mispronounced the word. That's minor compared to what he's doing, and you liberals just go along with it. Get your head out of the "snow"!!!!!!!!
Imbecile like the last guy? Do you mean like misunderestimated? That is hardly a real word. The guy who said "corpse man" is also the one who thinks the Medal of Honor can be "won". Awarded and earned, never won!
For the record ... no, I don't think that either Bush nor Obama is an imbecile. I'm making the point that every time GWB blundered his words he was called an idiot. I think it is a far greater offense for the current President, the commender-in-chief of our corpsman, to mispronounce the word "corpsman." If it was fair to call Bush an idiot, then it's probably fair to now call Obama an idiot and a moron for now even knowing how to pronounce the title of men under his control ... and three times no less. If Bush had done this, Saturday Night Live would be doing bits about his handlers spelling out everything phonetically on the teleprompter. Except that wouldn't really apply because Bush rarely used a teleprompter, like the current guy, who's prone to stop when the teleprompter does - or get caught up on tricky words like "corpsman."
So that was my point - maybe too ironic for some ... that if it was fair to call Bush an imbecile, then it should be ok for Obama now.
To Kevin Rismiller, you must be blind or stupid. Not real sure which one. You distanced yourself from the republican party for the same thing the dems did to Bush. Only the dems did it alot more and brutal. Thats whats wrong with you libs, it alright for you to do something, but God forbid anyone else to do it.
You freaking liberals crack me up! I think that this "want to be" dictator, isn't as smart as what you libs thought he was. That is why most of you are so upset. The guy has no sense of responsibility..."blame it on the last guy", "we inherited", you get the picture. Heck, he can't put two sentences together or talk to a bunch of middle school kids with out the federal telepromptor. You libs were sold a bill of goods and the smarter of you are starting to see the light. He looks at the constitution as a mere interference instead as the law of the land. Your liberalism is a lie and you libs don't know how to handle it. The rest of us get the picture. Not only is this guy not as smart as the last guy, not that he was perfect, but this guy hates the United States, has no respect for the military, just like William Jefferson Clinton, and the people he gets his advise from are tax cheats and Chicago thug types that are socialists at heart. What you libs fail to see is that he never proofed the speach. He just reads what someone else writes. He is a puppet and someone else is pulling the strings and he doesn't have a clue.
OMG, how embarrassing. Letterman will have a field day with this one.
ReplyDeleteNo liberal comedian, like Letterman, will mock the socialist President no matter what he does. Watch and see.
ReplyDeleteSo much for the "eloquent speaker" Not as great as he thinks he is, and arrogant to boot!
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you guys are so perfect, wish I could be like you.
ReplyDeleteHe must be confused between being liberal or literal...
ReplyDeleteWhat?!? Nobama isn't the perfect god-like being so many people think he is? Oh no! The sky will now fall!
ReplyDeleteAnd the Democrats always made fun of Bush speaking…
ReplyDeleteMany times a corpsman functions as a corpse-man. That still does not excuse the mispronunciation. But I wonder how many of those deriding the miscue could have correctly pronounced the word before today?
ReplyDelete8:34 ... I'd be more willing to forgive the mistake if the President wasn't the commander of the military.

ReplyDeletenice try at some talking points. you guys are flailing ... don't try to drag me down with you.
ReplyDeleteBrilliant?!? Geez - get a clue......and be bold enough to sign your name.
ReplyDeleteBetter to mistakenly call him a "corpse man" than mistakenly make him a corpse, man.
ReplyDeleteWow… Is that the best you've got?
ReplyDeleteYou should hear the mispronunciations I hear from Darke Co. residents on a daily basis, that's more embarrassing…
Creek=Crick
Toilet=Torlet
Church=Turch
o_O WTF people

ReplyDeleteTis a far, far, cleaner place than where your head is!
ReplyDeleteGeez lieral....is that the best you can do? No wonder you think nobama will save us from the pit. Get a clue.
ReplyDeleteImbecile like the last guy? Do you mean like misunderestimated? That is hardly a real word. The guy who said "corpse man" is also the one who thinks the Medal of Honor can be "won". Awarded and earned, never won!

corpse-man
DJ, no need to explain your point. It was obvious just unfounded.
ReplyDeleteVery well said, DJ.
ReplyDeletePointing out this sort of mistake , while valid, is childish… One of the many reasons I have distanced myself from the republican party.
ReplyDeleteYour responses to his foible say more about those of you posting here, than him. Seriously, grow up or at least pretend to be adults.
* yawn *
ReplyDeletei've had enough military guys back me up on this one that i don't really think it was childish at all. i'll stick with my first instinct on this one

ReplyDeleteDW
DW, you are the puppet!!
ReplyDeleteWow, now I'm stupid… Thanks for proving my point John H.
ReplyDeleteDW you sound like a very hateful individual, I suggest you seek some anger management.
Really DJ, you take the word of a "military guy" No bias there…
p.s. I'm an Independent, I don't vote down party lines, good to see there are at least a few free thinkers here in DC
