Critical news for NFL fans

Overtime rules change starting next year, in the playoffs only:

If a team wins the coin toss and then kicks a field goal, the other team gets the ball. If the game becomes tied again after that next series, play will continue under the current sudden-death rules. Should the team winning the toss immediately score a touchdown, then the game is over.

[info from nfl.com] ... Bonus fact: The NFL owners voted in favor of this change 28-4, with the Bengals among the four.

  1. why even change it at all? the core problem still exists in that a team can have no chance to score offensively. this sounds like the sort of compromise made that pleases no one.
