The Year of Annie Oakley

Darke County Commissioners Terry Haworth, Diane Delaplane and Mike Rhoades signed a proclamation declaring 2010 as the “Year of Annie Oakley” in honor of Darke County’s Favorite Daughter. Witnessing the signing is Garst Museum Director Penny Perry and…. wait a minute !, is that Annie?

2010 is Annie Oakley’s 150th Birthday. Garst Museum will be dedicating the whole year to special events, beginning with the “Little Sure Shot Gala” on May 22; “Annie, the Pride of Darke County” Flower Show with an Annie Oakley theme; and a special week in August with tours of the Annie Oakley Center and on August 13, an Ohio Historical Marker will be dedicated at Brock Cemetery where Annie is buried. This marker is a replacement and is funded by the Darke County Visitor’s Bureau, the Darke County Historical Society, and the Annie Oakley Center Foundation.
