AREA ARTISTS SHOWCASE WORK AT HISTORIC BEAR’S MILL

“Art At the Mill” will feature the work of painter Kathleen Bertolone and metal sculptor Dave Palmer from Friday, May 28 through Sunday, June 20. This exhibit at historic Bear’s Mill begins with an opening night reception from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m.

Milwaukee-born Kathleen Bertolone’s love of landscapes and barn structures is readily apparent to all who view her vibrant work, even when the paintings themselves are somewhat ambiguous and amorphous. “Sometimes well-planned, other times spontaneous but always energetic, Kathleen’s colorful images offer an expanded perception of nature,” says Bear’s Mill spokesperson Julie Clark. Now a Kettering resident, Kathleen uses oil paints, oil pastel, soft pastels or “anything at hand” to create evocative pieces which have earned numerous awards in juried exhibitions throughout the country.

Dave Palmer says that he takes pieces of metal, and lets them “speak” to him when deciding how to develop his art pieces. Utilizing a variety of metals and materials to create unique metal sculptures and sculptural furniture, the Troy resident displays his work at art shows and festivals as well as galleries throughout the Miami Valley. “Dave’s fascinating sculptures range from whimsical small table pieces to large, abstract architectural forms,” Mrs. Clark said. “We are looking forward to displaying his diverse work in our rustic setting,” she concluded.

Doug Taylor’s unique photographs and wood sculptures by Klaus Otten remain on display at the Mill through May 23. “Art at the Mill,” supported in part by a grant from Darke County Endowment of the Arts, is on view during regular Mill store hours, 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Fridays and on Sundays, and 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Saturdays. Bear’s Mill is operated by The Friends of Bear’s Mill, a non-profit organization, and is located at 6450 Arcanum-Bear’s Mill Road about 5 miles east of Greenville.
