Citizens4Change holds town hall meeting

The group Citizens4Change held a town hall meeting Saturday in the city park. Over 100 were in attendance. The founding members each spoke about goals and objectives for the group. Then the microphone was turned over to members of the community who were given the opportunity to speak.

Several people spoke of constantly receiving sex offender notifications in the mail. One man recently bought a house on Memorial Drive, only to quickly learn he had 7 sex offender living close by.

Several emotional accounts were given, including one woman who unknowingly rented a home right next to one of the houses for parolees. The woman was whistled at and her daughter approached before she realized who lived next door. The woman fought back tears as she described how she and her children do not go outside, and she pays someone to mow her lawn.

A divorced man spoke saying his young daughter lives two doors down from the parolee house on East Main. He observed a sex offender watching his daughter one day.

The overriding opinion was that people weren't against rehabilitation for sex offenders, but that sex offenders should receive treatment and counseling in their own counties. Some suggested the houses could be moved to business or rural districts.

Several people spoke directly to the supporters of the Good Samaritan program, pleading with them to use their time and resources for better causes, or to fund the director so that he can counsel the sex offenders in their own communities.

Many other items were discussed, and will be dealt with in future articles. For more information on Citizens4Change, click the logo below.

  1. I think a big red X should be placed on every home in town where a sex offender lives, then we will all know where they are living>

  5. there should be a limit on how many offenders can live within an area or city and every new one admitted needs to be approved by all neighbors in the block...

  6. changed man, forever. Bullcrap!! We should put a red X on your forehead also, so we know when a prevert is around. You can get mad at this movement all you want. You are the one that committed the crime. You should be caged forever in my opinion.

  7. I think the question that should be asked: is this being done for benevolence, or profit? I have a strong suspicion that it is the latter. If so, the man has no right to jeopardize communities for dollars in his pocket. He certainly is not a big-enough entity to enjoy that ability.

  9. What about repentence of sins? I thought Greenville and Darke County were strong Christian communities. Guess I was wrong. Hypocrites.

  10. Come on "Relax." One thing doesn't have anything to do with the other. I know it's a fun pasttime to call Christians "hypocrites," but you usually have to have some sort of point to back you up.

  11. Changed Man, may I ask what you needed to be changed from? Possibly you yourself have been a sexual offender? I can see why you would not agree with this community asking questions about Grahams homes. Once again, I repeat. A sexual offender is likely to offend again, especially a child molester. We do not need these people being brought into this community so Graham can make money. If Graham is really a preacher I would suggest he take these people into his own home. Let his family live with them and deal with them. After all, they are not dangerous are they?
