2010 Elks State soccer shoot

From left to right: Baleigh Rhoads, Brayden Skinner, Gabriella DeVoss, Cody Coppess and Joshua Gifford
The Greenville Elks #1139 would like to again congratulate the state competitors that participated from our area. On Saturday, July 24, 2010, the Ohio Elks State Association held their annual State Soccer shoot competition. The winners of each district in Ohio met in Coshocton, OH at the Kids America complex to compete against the best competitors in the state. The format of the competition is the same at the state level as it is at the district level. The younger divisions U-8 and U-10 still shoot at 5 goals varying from 48” to 17”. The older age groups of U-12 and U-14 also shoot at a goal with different areas of the goal being with different point values.

We are pleased to announce that our area had several competitors that made their way to the competition. It’s always a pleasure to witness and experience the talent of our youth, especially at this level of competition. In the girls U-8 division, Baleigh Rhoads of Springfield finished in 4th place and in the boys U-8 division Josh Gifford also of Springfield finished in 3rd place. The rest of our competitors were from Greenville. In the girls U-10 division, Gabriella DeVoss finished in 5th place and Brayden Skinner won the boys U-10 division! In the boys U-14, Cody Coppess was the last competitor and earned a 4th place finish. Also qualifying for the event, but unable to attend were Jack Garland (U-12 boys), Maddie Shepard (U-12 girls) and Hannah Coakley (U-14 girls). Job well done by all of the competitors!

The organizers of the event also decided to offer an overall award to the boy and girl in the younger and older division that had the highest combined score from the state and district event. It’s my extreme pleasure to announce that Brayden Skinner of Greenville won the overall award for boys U-8 and U-10. Brayden’s combined score from state and district was 68 points. Congratulations Brayden on this awesome accomplishment!

Next year’s local competition will be again held in the May timeframe. Watch the news sources for announcements on when and where the competition will be held. An exciting twist for next year is that there will be a regional level competition for the winners of the state competition. Start practicing now! We look forward to seeing all of you again in May!

  5. It's about our children! Thanks to the ELKS organizations across the State of Ohio. Special thanks to Rich who organized the program at the local level. It was a well organized, professional competion. Elks members made it all happen. All of the children had a great time participating, the winners, as well as those who did not win. Everyone was a winner in our book. Unlike 7:46AM. By the way, I wouldn't tell David Beckham soccer is'nt a sport.

  7. Soccer is for kids who can't compete in a real sport like football. It will never catch on like other real sports in this country. A real father would not encourage his son to play soccer.

  8. i like football over soccer, but i think you went a little too far with that last comment robert :)

  9. I can't believe Robert's post was allowed. Give these young people a "way to go". Praise them for what they have done. We all like to be good at something and we all can't be good at the same thing. Robert gets the egghead trophy.

  10. Dear Robert:
I am not sure how to address you after the comments that you made concerning soccer, but I will try to use small words, so that you may understand them.
First of all, you have offended all boys and girls that play the great sport of soccer with your childish comments. I played the game of Football for 10 years throughout school and still love the game today, but I have three very athletic boys that love the game of Soccer and I am very proud of them. I have seen the practices and training that they go through to play the game. Soccer is a global game(that means world-wide Robert) that is played by MIllions of children and adults. I believe the reason why Soccer is not any bigger in the US is because of closed-minded people like you. I am not sure if you heard or not, but there was this big soccer tournament last month; it was called the World Cup. It was kind of a big deal around the world. You may have missed it because you were watching reruns of COPS or WWE Wrestling(a real sport).
To close Robert, my Grandfather once told me that it is better to let people think that you are an idiot, than open your mouth and remove all doubt. Thank you for removing all doubt.
    Sincerely,
    Soccer Dad/Coach

  11. Excellent post Soccer Dad/Coach! Robert, you are down-right offensive to the children who play their hearts out at this "sport"!! AND to the parents to drive all over creation, contribute time, & money; stand in the rain, blazing heat, and even show to watch their kids play their hearts out! And why, oh why would you post such a comment below the picture of innocent kids with their awards??? How horrible! I hope the kids in the picture don't read these comments! Seriously dude, get a life!

  12. Soccer Dad, do you give your little men a juice box and orange slices after the game? Seriously, I can just see you as a grown man yelling for some little 150 lb guy named "Ian" in a 1 to nil "exciting" game. Get real, your kids play soccer because they are not athletic enough to play any other sports.

  13. I hope the kids in the picture don't read these comments! Seriously dude, get a life!............ Listen, those kids will be teased and laughed at for being soccer nerds when they get to high school anyway, they may as well get used to it.

  14. Robert has no life to get! It's awful!! These are kids. You should be ashamed of yourself! Soccer Dad/Coach could not have said it any better! I'm GLAD you explained the World Cup to him. And your Grandfather is a good man!

  15. Robert, I don't like soccer. Actually, I can't stand soccer, and chuckled a little at your "1 to nil" comment. But the rest of your comments are really out of line. Nobody is a bad dad because he encourages his son to play soccer. And no boy is a wimp for playing soccer. Some of the wimpiest, most fearful people I've ever known were football players. Maybe you were one of them? You can't win by making such absolute statements.

So just chill out dude. Don't respond further in this thread.

  16. I think Brayden best hold on to tight to that trophy, looks like Baleigh is trying to figure out how to take it from him!

  17. Soccer Dad and others who responded to my comments. Did you ever go fishing for carp? You bait your line and toss it out there. Pretty soon a big ol carp grabs that bait. You my friends are that carp. having a little fun, thanks for the humor.

    Dear Robert:
I like your sense of humor, we should get together some time for drinks and a few laughs.
