Upon request, the Darke County Health Department has forwarded several reports relating to the recent closure of the El Camino Real Mexican restaurant. These are all public records. You should keep in mind that all violations listed in the reports are alleged violations at this point. However, the Health Department has documented itself very well.
Editorial note: do not wish to make matters worse for El Camino Real, but releasing these records in recognition that rumors about the violations are much, much worse that what is actually being alleged. And further - the food at El Camino Real is great, and will order again as soon as they re-open.
The documents are all bunched together in chronological order in a single pdf here (this is a large file and will load slowly, possibly taking several minutes).
Too bad---only place I ever had stomach problems with (twice) was not there. fish drive through.
ReplyDeletethey were in business for many years at Greenville Inn, why no violations that closed them there?

ReplyDeleteI am shocked at how most don't seem to be concerned about the violations. These are serious issues and could cause major health issues or worse, death. I do hope they get the problems solved but seriously people I doubt this is a witch hunt! The Health Dept has a job to do.. I am glad to see they are doing it and if other establishments have issues I hope they pay attention to this and correct them before they are next.

And then there is Fair food !
ReplyDeleteOh don't bring up fair food. I love fair food and try not to think of the probable filth. haha
ReplyDeleteEl Camino is the best Mexican in a 50+ radius. I've worked in the food industry, and if the public knew what goes on in those kitchens, they would NEVER eat out! The violations against El Camino are serious, yes, but given a chance to fix, they will be better than most of the local eateries, and the violations pale in comparison to others I have viewed with my own eyes.
ReplyDeleteEl Camino - Get it together, WE LOVE YOU!
I say open El Camino and shut down the health department.
ReplyDeleteI don't think anyone is downplaying the seriousness of the violations, or thinking that it was wrong to shut them down.
ReplyDeletebut regardless, I've never had a problem there and will not be scared off. Most likely, the point in time when they reopen will likely be the "cleanest" time a restaurant will ever be.
I wonder if they checked for green cards at the El Camino?
ReplyDeleteEaton Ohio has a great Mexican Restaurant! One of the best in this part of Ohio.
ReplyDeleteSorry but the one in Eaton (right inside town - across from McDonalds) is not one of the best in my opinion. Will definitely buy El Camino again.
ReplyDeleteThere is something funny that the department that inspects restaurants, also inspects toilets!
ReplyDeleteTranslators to explain how to wash your hands? Give me a break!
ReplyDeleteTranslators to explain WHEN to wash your hands, when to wear gloves, how to store food, how to check and maintain temperatures. Some of food safety is common sense, whereas some of it you have to learn in the kitchen and/or by taking a ServSafe class.
ReplyDeleteActually read the documents DJ took the time to collect and post. There are a variety of issues. None of them say anything about workers not knowing HOW to wash their hands.
