Applications available for open Greenville Board of Education Seat

There is a vacancy on the Greenville City Board of Education due to the resignation of Mr. Bill Funderburg. The remaining board members have the responsibility of appointing a new member.

Board President Mrs. Cindy Scott said Funderburg resigned from the school board effective September 21, 2010. The board must appoint a replacement for Mr. Funderburg in not less than 10 days, but not more than 30 days of the resignation date of September 21st. The appointment must be made at the next scheduled board meeting following the resignation which would occur no sooner than October 1, 2010. The newly appointed school board member will serve until December 31, 2011.

Citizens interested in being considered for appointment to the Greenville City Board of Education should contact Carla G. Surber, CPA, Secretary to the Board, for an application at 937 548-3185 (725) or email at Csurber@greenville.k12.oh.us. Requests may also be made in writing to Greenville City Board of Education, 215 West Fourth Street, Greenville, Ohio 45331.

According to the Ohio School Boards Association, people serving on school boards in Ohio must be district residents and registered voters. If they wish to continue serving on the school board, they will stand for election in the November, 2011, general election.

Scott said the board will review all applications and decide on the replacement at a meeting which will be determined in the near future. Applications will be taken until the close of business (4:00 P.M.) on Friday, October 1, 2010, at the Board office of Greenville City Schools (Memorial Hall) which serves approximately 3000 students in 5 buildings over 127 square miles of territory.

  1. The smart a$$ in me wants to say now is the time for all you illuminati to walk the walk. But, since I actually care about the future of the school, I will instead ask who people would like to see run.

  4. The sad part is this will be an appointment from the existing board and not an election from the community. This will work in favor of the opinions in charge. Agenda as usual.
