With Vectren’s support, DCCA will present performing artists to students in all grade levels of all Darke County and Greenville City Schools during the upcoming school year. The season opens with Lyle Cogen’s Sticks & Stones, a new musical funded by the U.S. Department of Justice, which teaches young children about bullying. Students in grades K through 3 will enjoy this performance of teachable moments the week of September 27 when DCCA volunteers escort the artist to all elementary schools in Darke County, following a schedule coordinated by the Darke County Education office and Greenville City Schools.
Concert pianist Alpin Hong, will help students in grades 7 and 8 explore how popular movie, television and video game music affects the listener. This program takes place at St. Clair Memorial Hall on February 3 & 4, 2011. Allan Wolf will be in town the week of February 15, encouraging High School students to ‘be aware of the poems lurking at their elbows’ in his creative program, Got Rhyme? Leland Faulkner will complete the Arts In Education program when he takes a World Of Wonder to students in grades 4 through 6 the week of March 7. Faulkner conjures up an amazing menagerie of silhouettes using only his hands; students will also discover classical magic from the Far East.
