On September 6th, 2010 at 6:33 PM, Darke County Sheriff's Deputies along with Versailles Fire, Versailles Rescue and Careflight were dispatched to Boyer Road north of Etter Road in reference to an injury accident.
The preliminary investigation revealed a motor scooter driven by David L. Armstrong Sr., 70, Versailles, was traveling Northbound on Boyer Road north of Etter Road when the front tire blew out causing the scooter to travel off the roadway, striking a wooden post, which caused both riders to be ejected. Both riders were wearing helmet.
Armstrong was airlifted to Miami Valley Hospital by Careflight. The passenger, Carolyn F. Armstrong, 68, Versailles, was transported to Wayne Hospital where she was treated and released.
This accident remains under investigation.
UPDATE: The Darke County Sheriff's Office was notified during the morning hours of September 7th, 2010, that David L. Armstrong Sr. of Versailles, Ohio , died due to injuries sustained from the crash on Boyer Road while in surgery at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.
