CANDIDATES FORUM ON CABLE

The Candidates' Forum sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Darke County will be broadcast on GPAT following the event, 10/25.

If you were unable to attend the Candidates’ Night, please be sure to tune into Greenville Public Access Television (GPAT), Channel 5 Wednesday, October 27, Sunday, October 31 or Monday, November 1 at 10:00 AM, 1:00 PM or 6:00 PM each day. The program will be broadcast in its entirety.

The candidates were videotaped and those citizens unable to attend the Forum will have an opportunity to view the candidates and hear their responses to questions. The program will be
less than 2 hours.

The event begins with very brief introductions by unopposed Darke County candidates on the ballot as well as opposed State or Federal Candidates in attendance. Then the evening begins with opposed candidates for State Senate, 5th District followed by candidates for Darke County Commissioner.

Forum participants were given two minute introductory speeches. Following that, they answered questions submitted by the audience and discussed issues. They concluded with a one minute statement. Opposed candidates involved included:

* State Senate, 5th District (Vote for one): William D. Beagle ( R) or Fred Strahorn (D).
* Darke County Commissioner (Vote for one): David Niley (D) , Keith Smith (I) or Mike Stegall (R).

The League of Women Voters is a non-partisan political organization with the major purpose being to inform voters about the candidates and issues. Special thanks to Nick Schmidt of Schmidt Photography for videotaping the evening, Todd Kaiser from Bach to Rock for the sound system and for setting up the equipment and to the American Legion for use of their facility. PLEASE REMEMBER TO VOTE, TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 2.

  1. I am sure that the GPAT is a great source to get messages out to the public, but GPAT can only be seen if you are a Time Warner customer, right? That only reaches approximately 10,000 homes and businesses in Darke County what about the other 15,000 homes and businesses in Darke County that live outside your city perimeters? I wasn't able to make it to the forum on Monday and don't have cable so how are you going to reach people like me? Sometimes it helps if you think beyond the realm of your glorius city, there are quite a lot of us who actually live in the country and aren't privvy to your GPAT. Think you should really give that some thought.

  2. Well, appears you may have to take some initiative to learn about the candidates by attending another meeting, candidate rally, reading a newspaper, picking up candidate literature, calling the candidate, etc.

I live outside of the city limits.

    I've done this for years.

    Good luck.

  3. I saw it, and it was PAINFUL to sit through the Commissioners part! It wouldn't matter to most people around here anyways. They are all so deeply entrenched in their opinions and emotional baggage. There was a VERY clear "winner." I absolutely guarantee that if everyone watched it, not knowing who was for which party, and were even partly able to set personal biases from 30 years ago aside, Stegall would win this election in a landslide victory! But people can't do that. They'd rather have a bumbling buffoon or someone who cannot put together a coherant sentence with two hands and a flashlight representing them. It's sad.
Honestly, you people DO realize that this is a person who will be trying to present Darke County to big business, trying to "sell" them on what a good place we are for them to invest their money -- and bring in JOBS! Naaaaa, that's not important though, is it? All that matters is that this one or that one "seems like a 'nice' guy."
    Fools.

  4. E;
I'll give your candidate an "A" for arrogance, but that's about it.

  5. Silly Liberals!
I give him an "I" for intelligence and 3 "P's" for personality, performance and professionalism - 4 things the other two sorely lack.
Miserable people always hate happy people who enjoy life and have a good sense of humor. That's par for the course. :)

  6. I wonder if their is a place on the web where people can go to watch these debates T.W. puts on the air?

  7. Sometimes arrogance is mistaken because of nervousness. I'd still rather have a assured person representing me than a "has been" and a "good ole' guy" This is not a contest for most friendly, folks, or most popular, its a contest for good representation for our county.
Monday evening Mr. Smith hinted that he'd just ask around for ways to run the county---that's not what we need. Mr. Niley wants to "live in the past---no courthouse improvements, please let's go back to the 40s". We need a better future than that!

  8. I wish there were video of it. I am confident that if everyone saw it, Stegall would win handily. There is no contest.
Anyone who would vote for the other two would be doing so based on nothing but emotion....and they would get exactly what they deserve.
